    I. Project Background

    Buyer: AgroLux High-End Grain & Oil Group, Zurich, Switzerland A leading European manufacturer of mid-to-high-end cold-pressed vegetable oils and infant complementary food oils, its products are sold at premium Swiss supermarkets Coop and Migros, as well as German organic maternity and infant retail chains. All products comply with four major access standards: EU EFSA E321, US FDA FCC, KOSHER and HALAL. The group has an annual fixed demand of 55 tons of customized food-grade BHT (Antioxidant 264), and previously purchased refined BHT from BASF Germany on a long-term basis. Due to surging raw material costs and extended delivery cycles across Europe, the group initiated customized procurement from Chinese suppliers.

    The client independently contacted 3 conventional domestic BHT manufacturers in the early stage, yet all could only supply standard national-standard food-grade BHT and failed to meet three core customized technical specifications required by the client. Small-scale trials with conventional domestic BHT exposed three fatal defects:

    1. Uneven crystal particle size, leaving insoluble white specks when dosed into low-temperature oils;

    2. Heavy metal and free cresol internal control indexes stricter than China national standards were exceeded in standard batches;

    3. Demand for microcrystalline fine particles plus 20kg aluminum foil vacuum nitrogen-filled packaging. Standard production lines of domestic factories refused separate process and packaging line modifications, leading to high customized quotations and unstable mass production performance. Sample testing losses exceeded 6,000 Swiss Francs. The client therefore authorized HiSiaddi to fully develop and deliver products matching all customized specifications.

    Mandatory customized technical requirements (exceeding China GB2760 national standard and conventional food-grade BHT):

    1. GC purity ≥99.85% (conventional commercial food-grade BHT only reaches ≥99.0%);

    2. Free cresol ≤0.008%, ignition residue ≤0.003%, lead <2ppm, arsenic <0.5ppm (national standard limits: free cresol ≤0.015%, ignition residue ≤0.005%);

    3. Uniform microcrystalline particles of 80–120 mesh, no large crystal lumps; complete dissolution at 40°C in cold-pressed walnut oil and flaxseed oil without suspended matter;

    4. Packaging: 20kg food-grade aluminum foil vacuum bags filled with nitrogen for moisture and oxidation resistance; fully English compliance labels, plus English COA and FCC quality inspection reports.

    II. Full-Chain Customization Renovation Implemented by HiSiaddi to Resolve Three Core Customization Pain Points

    1. Screen Manufacturers with Matching Customization Capacity and Optimize Synthesis & Refining Processes

    HiSiaddi screened two leading domestic BHT manufacturers with secondary precision rectification transformation capabilities (Shandong Fine Chemical and Jiangsu Maida Biotechnology), eliminating general manufacturers focused solely on standardized mass production. Jiangsu Maida was finalized as the designated customized production plant:

    · Optimized synthesis section: Adjusted the endpoint of catalytic alkylation reaction and added a secondary vacuum rectification process to remove trace cresol impurities, controlling free cresol below 0.007%;

    · Reconstructed crystallization section: Modified cooling crystallization rate and stirring speed to generate uniform 80–120 mesh microcrystalline BHT on demand, eliminating white haze and undissolved coarse crystals in oils;

    · Raw material control: Adopted pharmaceutical-grade p-cresol raw materials to control heavy metal sources, with full ICP heavy metal testing confirming all finished products meet the client’s limit standards.

    2. Develop Exclusive Custom Packaging Lines to Deliver Special Vacuum Nitrogen-Filled Packaging

    The factory’s standard packaging was 25kg kraft paper bags lined with PE film, without aluminum foil vacuum nitrogen filling equipment. HiSiaddi coordinated the factory to launch an independent small dedicated packaging line:

    1. Customized 20kg packaging bags using food-grade aluminum foil composite film;

    2. Deployed automatic vacuum nitrogen filling and sealing machines; finished products undergo vacuum treatment followed by high-purity nitrogen filling to isolate air and prevent yellowing caused by oxidation during storage;

    3. Packaging bags printed with EU regulatory-compliant English information: Butylated Hydroxytoluene (E321), CAS 128-37-0, FCC grade, allergen statements, storage conditions and factory FDA registration number.

    3. Customize Testing Standards and Full Set of Export Compliance Documents

    1. Cooperated with CNAS-accredited third-party laboratories to develop test items aligned with US FCC and EU E321 dual standards. Each batch is issued a bilingual Chinese-English COA report, supplemented with client-specified induction period testing and accelerated antioxidant compatibility testing with edible oils;

    2. Assisted the factory in completing FCC compliance statements, FDA GRAS filings, and KOSHER/HALAL certificates to satisfy audit requirements for Swiss customs and supermarket warehousing;

    3. Implemented three-stage sampling verification: laboratory small samples → 50kg pilot mass production → 500kg trial mass production, with all three rounds of inspection fully meeting customized specifications.

    III. Sample Verification and Mass Order Execution

    1. Laboratory small-scale testing by the Swiss client: Microcrystalline BHT added to cold-pressed flaxseed oil maintained far lower peroxide values over 6 months at ambient temperature compared with original German imported materials, with no precipitation or turbidity and antioxidant performance equivalent to BASF products;

    2. First 500kg trial shipment sea-freighted to Zurich, Switzerland. No caking or yellowing was observed upon warehouse unpacking, and packaging integrity passed full inspection by the Swiss Food Safety Authority;

    3. Signed an annual framework order of 55 tons, delivered in 6 monthly batches. HiSiaddi took unified control of the entire process including production, quality inspection, packaging, customs declaration and ocean freight.

    Cost Comparison

    Unit procurement price of customized domestic BHT decreased by 31% compared with German imported raw materials, cutting the client’s annual raw material procurement expenditure by 128,000 Swiss Francs. The client later launched new infant complementary oil product lines and placed an additional order of 12 tons of customized microcrystalline BHT.

    IV. Three-Way Cooperation Outcomes

    1. AgroLux High-End Grain & Oil Group of Switzerland successfully realized domestic substitution of imported raw materials. Customized specifications matched the formulas of high-end infant edible oils, enabling stable shelf placement across premium maternity and infant supermarkets in Switzerland. Supply cycle was shortened from 45 days for European suppliers to 22 days for Chinese suppliers.

    2. The designated domestic BHT manufacturer solidified a dedicated microcrystalline BHT process formula through this high-end Swiss customized order. This customized product model has since been exported to multiple high-end food enterprises in Austria and Finland, commanding a premium of over 35% above standard national-standard BHT.

    3. HiSiaddi Foreign Trade Service established standardized high-end BHT customization services (index decomposition → process technical renovation → customized packaging → compliance documentation → batch quality control), forming differentiated customized antioxidant services for fine chemicals. Subsequent customized BHT orders were secured from multiple high-end food enterprises across Northern Europe and Canada.

    V. Project Summary

    The vast majority of domestic BHT manufacturers focus on standardized mass production complying with national standards and are unwilling to independently reconstruct crystallization and packaging lines for niche high-end demand. Mid-to-high-end European and American food enterprises producing infant oils and organic foods require special BHT with stricter internal control indexes than national standards and customized particle size/packaging specifications. Independent raw material sourcing frequently results in manufacturers refusing process modifications and failing to meet index requirements. Leveraging domestic factory resources and expertise in European and American regulatory compliance, HiSiaddi delivers full-chain customized development covering processes, packaging, testing and compliance, achieving a win-win-win situation: overseas high-end clients reduce costs and stabilize supply, domestic manufacturers access high-margin export products, and the service provider builds service barriers for fine chemical customization.
