Headquartered in Barcelona High-Tech Chemical Park, Spain, AquaIberia has 22 years of R&D and production experience in seawater desalination chemicals for the Iberian Peninsula, industrial closed high-temperature circulating water and drinking water supporting scale inhibition stock solutions. All finished chemical products are filed with the Spanish Ministry of Environment, complying with EU REACH, OECD biodegradable standards and Spanish drinking water additive access specifications. Downstream projects cover 4 large-scale RO seawater desalination plants along the Mediterranean coast, fine chemical circulating water projects in Madrid Industrial Zone and geothermal power stations in Catalonia. The client long purchased original modified PESA from BASF Germany.
Due to overhauls of local European chemical plants and surging raw material prices, import delivery cycles were extended to 90 days and unit procurement prices rose by 41%. In 2025, AquaIberia launched a tender for domestic Chinese raw material replacement, planning total annual procurement of 168 tons of PESA divided into three application segments: 75 tons for seawater reverse osmosis systems, 58 tons for high-temperature geothermal circulating water, and 35 tons for chemical compounding.
Initially, the client independently contacted five major domestic PESA manufacturers including Taihe, Fumiao, Anzhi, Aoxiao and Meite for inquiry and sample delivery. All manufacturer sales teams only promoted their full product lines – while avoiding negative comments on competitors, they deliberately omitted comparative advantages of rival products and only highlighted their own selling points. This prevented the client from horizontal comparison of molecular weight, impurity content, heat resistance and compound compatibility across different brand models. Physical and chemical indicators of samples from five manufacturers varied drastically: standard national standard grades caused compound stratification, conventional sodium grades hydrolyzed under high temperature, and low-end grades failed silica scale inhibition testing. After 45 days of sample testing, the client still could not lock matching products, terminated direct manufacturer communication and fully entrusted HiSiaddi’s foreign trade team with neutral full-brand model selection and benchmark screening.
Leveraging CNAS third-party testing resources, HiSiaddi collected factory COAs, measured sample data, process routes and product advantages/disadvantages of all five brands, and delivered neutral analysis targeting the client’s three working conditions of high-silica seawater, 90℃ high-temperature geothermal and ternary additive compounding without bias toward any manufacturer:
Core three grades: TH-PESA40 general national standard grade, TH-SI silicon-modified seawater dedicated grade, TH-HT high-temperature modified acid grade
· Advantages: Automated continuous synthetic process with top-tier domestic product stability; TH-SI features built-in silica scale modified structures with magnesium silicate inhibition rate ≥91%; TH-HT hydroxyl modification delivers high-temperature resistance with scale inhibition attenuation <4% after 168h constant temperature storage at 95℃. Complete REACH and EU biodegradation test reports are available, suitable for mid-to-high-end European and American working conditions.
· Disadvantages: Higher unit price for general national standard grades; higher minimum order threshold for small-batch customization compared with medium and small manufacturers.
Core grades: FM-40 conventional sodium grade, FM-LOW low-monomer compound-dedicated PESA
· Advantages: Mature refined monomer removal process; FM-LOW free monomer ≤0.19%, chroma APHA ≤50, excellent stability when compounded with PASP and organic phosphonate without stratification after 90 days storage, specializing in high-end raw materials for chemical compounding.
· Disadvantages: No self-developed high-temperature modified grades with weak performance under geothermal high-temperature working conditions; limited R&D investment in silicon-modified products leading to limited adaptability for seawater scenarios.
Core grades: AZ-PESA basic industrial grade, AZ-M modified corrosion inhibition grade
· Advantages: Cooperates with Beijing University of Chemical Technology for technical research; superior carbon steel anti-corrosion performance over competitors at equivalent price; flexible support for small non-standard customization.
· Disadvantages: Small mass production scale with limited automation, slight molecular weight fluctuation between batches, unsuitable for large-volume continuous annual procurement.
Core grade: OX-40 national standard general sodium grade
· Advantages: Low mass production cost and abundant off-the-shelf inventory with top cost performance for conventional municipal sewage and low-end circulating water.
· Disadvantages: No modified refining sections, broad molecular weight distribution PDI>1.9, excessive free monomers, mismatched for client’s three core scenarios of high-temperature, seawater and high-end compounding.
Core grade: MT-40 refined sample-grade PESA
· Advantages: Flexible small-batch sampling with excellent indicators for high-purity reagent-grade products.
· Disadvantages: Insufficient mass production capacity leading to long delivery cycles for ton-level orders; unstable industrial mass production quality, unable to undertake annual long-term agreements of over one hundred tons.
Combining the client’s three end-use scenarios, EU compliance requirements and stable large-volume annual procurement demand of 168 tons, Aoxiao (low-end general grade), Meite (insufficient mass production capacity) and Anzhi (unstable batch quality) were eliminated. Two leading domestic mid-to-high-end brands – Shandong Taihe and Jiangsu Fumiao – and three segmented dedicated grades were finalized:
1. Shandong Taihe TH-SI (silicon-modified PESA): Matching 75 tons seawater desalination RO projects. Tailored for Mediterranean high-silicate seawater, featuring narrow molecular weight 820±50 and PDI ≤1.33, silica scale inhibition performance matching original BASF indicators to fundamentally resolve RO membrane silica clogging.
2. Shandong Taihe TH-HT (high-temperature hydroxyl-modified acid-form PESA): Matching 58 tons high-temperature geothermal circulating water projects. Partially neutralized non-full sodium salt structure delivers high-temperature resistance under 95℃ strong alkali conditions to eliminate chemical hydrolysis failure, perfectly fitting operational parameters of the client’s geothermal units.
3. Jiangsu Fumiao FM-LOW (low-monomer refined PESA): Matching 35 tons compounded stock solution projects. Ultra-low free monomers and low chroma enable long-term storage without flocculation or turbidity when ternary-compounded with polyaspartic acid and organic phosphonate in the client’s mature formula, eliminating the need to adjust formulas filed with Spanish environmental authorities.
1. Three rounds of sample delivery and testing: HiSiaddi coordinated Taihe and Fumiao to deliver samples of three grades in three batches, accompanied by bilingual SDS, REACH registration documents and third-party OECD biodegradation test reports. After 45 days of accelerated aging, simulated seawater and compound storage full-item testing in Barcelona laboratories of the client, all three grades fully matched performance indicators of original BASF products with zero functional defects.
2. First batch delivery: The first 52 tons were produced separately at two manufacturers, shipped in full containers from Shanghai Port to Barcelona, Spain, with zero compliance issues during customs clearance. Full production line operation by the client restored RO membrane cleaning cycles for seawater desalination to 182 days, reduced geothermal system scaling rate by 88%, and delivered clear and stable compounded stock solutions passing Spanish environmental spot checks.
3. Phased delivery of full-year orders: The remaining 116 tons were shipped in three quarterly batches aligned with the client’s quarterly production schedule, cutting comprehensive domestic procurement costs by 34.6% compared with original German BASF imports.
4. Long-term renewal: In the following year, AquaIberia renewed the annual long-term procurement agreement for 220 tons of PESA, and fully entrusted HiSiaddi with exclusive responsibility for brand model selection of PASP and organic phosphonate scale inhibitors.
1. Industry Pain Points: Domestic PESA manufacturers feature clear product stratification: listed leading enterprises focus on mid-to-high-end modified customization, while medium and small factories produce low-cost national standard general goods. Driven by sales performance assessments, manufacturer sales teams only promote their own products and avoid discussing competitor strengths. Overseas mid-to-high-end clients lack domestic product databases and risk selecting inappropriate grades solely based on one-sided manufacturer introductions, incurring high sample testing loss costs.
2. Core Value of HiSiaddi: As a neutral third-party foreign trade service provider, break brand information barriers of single manufacturers, conduct horizontal parameter benchmarking across all brands, screen out low-end cost-effective grades based on client actual working conditions, and accurately match mid-to-high-end modified products. Bind high-quality Western European end clients through objective model selection services.
3. Mid-to-High-End Procurement Logic: European and American formulation manufacturers prioritize product working condition adaptability, production stability and compliance qualifications in model selection, with price as secondary consideration. Neutral multi-brand horizontal model selection is the key to securing large annual framework orders.
