High minimum order threshold: European suppliers required a minimum order of 20 metric tons. As the client’s new formula was still in the pilot test stage, the 3-ton customized order could not be fulfilled by overseas suppliers.
Non-standard technical indicators: Commercially available regular SADC products have an HLB value between 8.5 and 10, which failed to match the low-foam anti-rust system of cutting fluids. Conventional compound formulas also tended to produce waxy precipitates at low temperatures.
Compliance restrictions: Annex XVII of the EU REACH Regulation restricts short-chain aliphatic hydrocarbons. Regular domestic general-grade SADC had an aromatic hydrocarbon residue exceeding the standard by 0.6%, which could not pass customs inspection in the EU.
Special packaging and repackaging requirements: The client required products packed in 25L small-mouth plastic drums and IBC tote tanks, while European suppliers only provided 200L iron drums with no supporting repackaging services.
R&D and sample testing: Cooperating with the R&D laboratory of our partner chemical plant, we decomposed the client’s technical parameters, and adjusted the ratio of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic derivatives, molar number of ethylene oxide adducts and neutralization ratio of organic amine. A total of 5 rounds of small-scale trials (5kg samples for each batch) were conducted. All samples were sent to a third-party SGS laboratory in Poland for testing. We successively optimized low-temperature stability, aromatic hydrocarbon residue and acid value. The 5th batch of samples fully complied with REACH regulations and the client’s internal control standards.
Flexible production scheduling: We arranged independent production using a 500L pilot reactor, bypassing the production schedule restrictions of large-scale 10,000-ton production lines, and completed the pilot mass production of the 3-ton customized product.
Customized packaging: We coordinated with packaging manufacturers to develop customized food-grade PE small-mouth drums of 25L, and provided supporting IBC tote tank repackaging services. Meanwhile, we issued Certificate of Analysis (COA), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), REACH compliance certificate and Certificate of Origin to support customs clearance in Poland.
Logistics optimization: The 3-ton goods were shipped via consolidated sea freight with a combination of 25L small drums and one IBC tote tank, which cut down the high cost of full-container shipping. The delivery cycle was shortened to 18 days, compared with the 45-day lead time of European original manufacturers.
Excessive foaming during mixing: Severe foaming occurred to rubber compounds after feeding into the internal mixer. The porosity of semi-finished rubber gaskets exceeded 8%, and the qualified rate of finished products in pressure resistance test was lower than 55%.
Delamination at normal temperature: After being stored at 28℃ for 7 days, the SADC raw material separated into two layers, with white fatty acid salt solids precipitated at the bottom.
Unstable vulcanization rate: When the same batch of SADC was used with different grades of natural rubber, the vulcanization time fluctuated by ±3 minutes, making standardized production speed control impossible.
Root cause analysis: HiSiaddi engineers collected samples and conducted tests at the client’s factory. It was confirmed that the conventional SADC formula contained an excessively high proportion of C12 low-carbon-chain aliphatic derivatives and excessive inorganic alkali neutralizer, and lacked modified components of isomeric aliphatic alcohols. The high water solubility of low-carbon-chain components caused foaming during mixing; excessive inorganic alkali led to the generation of insoluble carboxylate salts and further delamination; the single carbon chain composition resulted in unstable compatibility with different types of natural rubber and fluctuating vulcanization rate.
Modification of SADC formula: After returning to China, we adjusted the compound system: reduced the proportion of C12 components to less than 5%, replaced inorganic neutralizer with organic tertiary amine, and added 8% isomeric C16 aliphatic alcohol derivatives to improve compatibility. New samples of optimized SADC were produced accordingly.
Optimization of downstream production processes: We also provided targeted operation guidelines for the client: adjust the feeding sequence (pre-mix SADC with naphthenic oil for 15 minutes before adding to the internal mixer), and lower the initial temperature of the internal mixer from 75℃ to 62℃ to reduce foaming caused by high temperature.

The monthly inventory volume of SADC is 15 tons, with appropriate adjustments upwards or downwards in response to peak and off-peak seasons.

It is stipulated that manufacturers shall issue a 30-day prior written notice if production is suspended due to environmental rectification or equipment maintenance, and backup manufacturers will be activated to replenish goods accordingly.
