Purchaser: ITALPLAST MED SRL (Italplast Medical Plastics Co., Ltd., Italy), located in an industrial park on the outskirts of Milan, Italy. With 28 years of experience manufacturing transparent medical PVC hoses, food-contact plastic packaging films and medical blister sheets, its products are supplied in bulk to top tertiary hospitals in Italy, the packaging division of Nestlé Food and multiple listed EU medical device enterprises. The full production line adopts lead-free eco-friendly calcium-zinc stabilization systems, with long-term fixed procurement of original high-purity dibenzoylmethane (DBM) from Eastman (USA) as auxiliary heat stabilizer, and a stable annual procurement volume of 47 tons. It is a mid-to-high-end raw material purchaser with strict standards for purity, chromaticity, solvent residue, powder particle size and compliance certificates.
Driven by continuous price hikes of local European and American chemical raw materials, contracted production capacity shrinkage of overseas major manufacturers and ocean transportation lead times extended to over 90 days, the client launched a domestic DBM localization substitution project to select qualified formal domestic brands for phased full replacement of imported raw materials. To fully survey domestic supply sources, the client independently contacted five mainstream domestic DBM manufacturers including Anhui Jiaxian, Shandong Jianbang, Nantong Defa, Hubei Yuanmeng and Jiangsu Bosite to request sample delivery, product parameter sheets and quotations. However, the sourcing work stalled for nearly 40 days due to inherent sales drawbacks in the industry: sales representatives from all five manufacturers only promoted their own product advantages. HP refined grade adopts multi-stage recrystallization process with GC purity≥99.85%, complete EU REACH registration support, excellent solvent residue control and compliance with food & medical standards. Shortcomings: No mid-to-high-end refined product lines for medical applications; maximum product purity capped at 99.2% with solvent residue generally above 180 ppm and pale yellow chromaticity, failing to pass EU LFGB food-contact migration tests and meet the client’s medical formula access thresholds.
Main Grade: BST-DBM general refined grade Product Advantages: Moderate cost performance of mid-range refined products optimized for domestic civil packaging PVC formulas with acceptable powder processing stability and fast short-distance spot delivery. Combining two differentiated formulas for medical infusion hoses and transparent food packaging films, Hubei Yuanmeng’s pure industrial grades, Jiangsu Bosite’s non-compliant products and Nantong Defa’s grades limited by bulk supply capacity were directly eliminated. Two leading domestic mid-to-high-end brands – Anhui Jiaxian and Shandong Jianbang – were finalized with three targeted sub-grades screened to match different product lines of the client respectively:
1. Anhui Jiaxian DBM-HP (Standard High-purity Refined Grade) Matching Scenario: Conventional mass production formula of the client’s medical PVC infusion catheters. GC purity≥99.86% with minimal batch fluctuation, complete REACH registration and attached LFGB third-party test reports. All basic indicators benchmark the base grade of original Eastman DBM, balancing stability and procurement costs as the primary mass production raw material.
2. Shandong Jianbang JB-DBM-F (Ultrafine Powder Modified Refined Grade) Matching Scenario: Special formula for ultra-thin food-grade transparent packaging films of the client. Exclusive low-temperature grinding process with powder D50≤3.7 μm and excellent dispersion speed, resolving agglomeration and precipitation white spot issues during mixing of thin films, suitable for high-transparency food packaging systems.
3. Anhui Jiaxian Custom DBM-HP-S (Low-residue Modified Special Grade) Matching Scenario: Special formula for high-end medical PVC blister sheets. Optimized negative pressure solvent removal procedures on the high-purity HP base with total solvent residue ≤38 ppm, perfectly meeting strict inspection standards of no precipitation after 95°C high-temperature boiling and complying with EU migration limits for medical raw materials.
1. Parallel small-batch testing by formula system HiSiaddi coordinated free sample delivery of the three selected grades from the two manufacturers. Three groups of samples for medical catheters, food films and medical sheets were formulated separately following the client’s original imported raw material formula. The client’s laboratory conducted three key tests item by item: light transmittance, 72-hour accelerated aging yellowing and precipitation after high-temperature boiling. All three products matched the formulas fully compliant, with finished product whiteness and thermal stabilization performance nearly identical to original Eastman products without yellowing, precipitation or poor dispersion defects.
2. Launch of small-batch pilot procurement The client issued an initial trial order: 15 tons Jiaxian DBM-HP, 8 tons Jianbang JB-DBM-F and 6 tons customized Jiaxian HP-S, totaling 29 tons shipped to Italy in two batches.
