HiSiaddi horizontally analyzed strengths and weaknesses of five top domestic brands, selecting two brands and three grades for bulk procurement implementation
The project partner is GT-Precision GmbH, a precision industrial control equipment leader based in Bavaria, Germany, a benchmark enterprise in European mid-to-high-end precision equipment manufacturing. Its three core product lines include high-temperature sensor bases, servo electric control insulated brackets and semiconductor test fixtures, supporting Siemens and Bosch’s full industrial automation industrial chains. Products comply with EU REACH, UL, VDE high-voltage insulation and DIN German industrial material standards, representing high-end purchasers with stringent requirements for raw material stability, batch consistency, high-temperature resistance and insulation indicators, distinct from ordinary low-end general plastic processors. The enterprise exclusively sourced imported SABIC ULTEM PEI for decades. Faced with extended lead times for overseas original manufacturers, surging international shipping costs and high minimum order thresholds for small-batch orders, the group’s supply chain department launched a domestic PEI substitution verification project with an estimated annual procurement volume of 72 tons, divided into three material categories: transparent injection-molding pure resin grade, 20% glass fiber reinforced precision grade and low-volatility semiconductor special grade, implemented in three batches of sample testing and mass production.
Client procurement and material engineers visited domestic PEI source manufacturers for the first time in China, contacting five top domestic PEI producers with independent polymerization mass production capacity: Wanrun Co., Ltd., Kingfa Science and Technology, WOTE Advanced Materials, Shandong Haoran Special Plastics and Zhongyan Co., Ltd. All five manufacturers operate compliantly and refrain from maliciously slandering competing brands, yet the industry’s universal business logic prioritizes promoting self-owned products. Manufacturers only elaborate on performance, production capacity, pricing and delivery advantages of their own grades, avoiding objective explanations of highlights and applicable scenarios of competing peer products, creating severe information asymmetry for the German client. For example, Kingfa engineers prioritized promoting its full K-PEI7000 series, emphasizing aerospace-grade flame retardancy and mass production advantages without mentioning WOTE PEI’s outstanding performance in low-shrinkage optical communication precision parts; Wanrun technical specialists focused on benchmarking its VAT002 series against SABIC 1000 grades without explaining Zhongyan’s technical strengths in low-precipitation semiconductor substrates; Haoran and Zhongyan similarly centered on their own product lines. The client could not horizontally compare core differences, applicable working conditions, price ranges and customization capabilities of each brand.
German engineers collected specification sheets for 12 flagship grades from five manufacturers, yet data standards were inconsistent with varying test environments: some manufacturers referenced Chinese national standards, some ASTM American standards and a minority DIN German standards, making direct horizontal comparison impossible. The client could not distinguish which grades matched its three product categories. Blind sample procurement would incur high testing fees and extend verification cycles; misselected raw materials would cause warpage of precision fixtures and non-compliant insulation, failing Bosch supply chain access audits. Stalled selection for three consecutive weeks, the German side abandoned independent screening and fully entrusted HiSiaddi’s technical foreign trade team to coordinate full domestic PEI brand research, horizontal grade evaluation and targeted selection recommendations. Equipped with polymer material engineers deeply rooted in the full domestic PEI industrial chain, HiSiaddi broke free from single-manufacturer brand bias and objectively analyzed strengths and weaknesses of the five top domestic brands centered on the client’s end-product operating conditions.
Leveraging domestic raw material warehousing resources and third-party physical and chemical testing laboratory resources, HiSiaddi conducted small sample testing on flagship grades of Wanrun, Kingfa, WOTE, Haoran and Zhongyan under unified ASTM international testing standards. Combined with original technical data, mass production processes, delivery capacity, customization services and compliance qualifications, it fully sorted and summarized strengths and weaknesses of each brand:
Flagship grades: VAT002 (general transparent pure resin), VAT002G20 (20% glass fiber reinforced), VAT002HF high-flow grade. Advantages: The only fully integrated domestic enterprise covering PEI monomer synthesis through polymerization and modification. High-purity substrates with low residual small molecules; full series benchmarking SABIC ULTEM1000/1010. Annual mass production capacity of 1,500 tons for general transparent grades with abundant spot inventory. Complete RoHS, REACH and FDA compliance certificates, delivery lead time of 7–10 days for standard grades and prominent price advantages for bulk purchases, suitable for mass standardized general injection-molded parts. Disadvantages: Limited product lines of high-end low-volatility semiconductor special modified grades; high minimum order quantities for customized special additive modification with insufficient flexibility for small-batch special sample testing. Glass fiber reinforced grades deliver average performance in ultra-low shrinkage thin-walled precision molding.
Flagship grades: K-PEI7100 pure resin, K-PEI7220 (20% glass fiber reinforced grade), K-PEI7330 (30% high-rigidity glass-filled grade). Advantages: Deepest accumulated domestic modification technology with annual PEI production capacity approaching 4,000 tons. Full series certified for Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China and Huawei 5G supply chains, with outstanding flame retardancy, heat resistance and mechanical strength. Heat deflection temperature of glass fiber reinforced grades reaches 212℃ with excellent creep resistance, ideal for high-voltage electric control and new energy vehicle structural components. Rich formula library for flexible on-demand fine-tuning, stable mass production for medium and large-batch orders. Disadvantages: High pricing for general transparent pure resin grades; limited categories of high-flow thin-wall special grades. Low priority for small-batch (≤500kg) sample production with lead times extended to over 20 days.
Flagship grades: WOTLON basic transparent PEI, WOTLON-G20 low-shrinkage 20% glass fiber grade, WOTLON-LV low-volatility semiconductor special material. Advantages: Focused on precision segmented tracks with low thermal expansion coefficient and molding shrinkage ≤0.4%, ultra-low dielectric loss at 10GHz and excellent infrared light transmittance, suitable for micron-level precision products including optical modules, semiconductor test fixtures and micro sensors. Flexible small-batch sample testing with minimum 50kg modified sample orders, responsive customization service for fine-tuning lubricant and antioxidant systems. Disadvantages: Limited mass production capacity for basic general pure resin, struggling to fulfill 100-ton-level bulk orders. Raw material unit price higher than general grades from Wanrun and Kingfa, unsuitable for low-cost mass standardized component production.
Flagship grades: HR-PEI1000 transparent material, HR-G20 glass-filled grade. Advantages: Cost-effective products with the lowest pricing among the five brands, suitable for ordinary industrial high-temperature housings. Disadvantages: Weak control over substrate purity and small-molecule volatilization; no low-volatility semiconductor compliant grades, excessive dielectric fluctuations after high-temperature aging, unable to meet stringent indicators of the German client’s precision industrial control and semiconductor components.
Flagship grades: ZY-PEI high-purity substrate, ZY-G20 electronic-grade glass-filled material. Advantages: High-purity substrates benchmarking imported medical-grade PEI with industry-leading control over small-molecule precipitation, suitable for ultra-high-standard semiconductor substrates. Disadvantages: Annual mass production capacity of only several hundred tons, high minimum order quantities for mass production, expensive unit prices and lead times exceeding 30 days. Only viable for ultra-small-batch special sampling, inapplicable to mass volume procurement for main production.
After objective horizontal comparison by HiSiaddi, Haoran Special Plastics failed to meet the mid-to-high-end product indicators of the German client, while Zhongyan’s mass production costs and lead times could not match scaled procurement demands. The remaining two brands, Wanrun and WOTE Advanced Materials, comprehensively fit the client’s three material requirements, forming the final selection scheme of two brands and three flagship grades.
Combined with operating environments, molding processes and compliance standards of GT-Precision’s three end-product categories, HiSiaddi split material demands and selected two Wanrun grades and one WOTE grade to fully cover all material needs:
1. Wanrun VAT002 transparent pure PEI (benchmarking SABIC ULTEM1000): For injection molding of transparent high-temperature sensor housings. This grade delivers high-purity substrates with uniform light transmittance, UL94-V0 flame retardancy and no yellowing after long-term use at 170℃, with abundant spot inventory and controllable unit pricing, perfectly matching mass standardized sensor housing production and complying with DIN aging resistance and REACH environmental requirements as a substitute for the original imported 1000 grade.
2. Wanrun VAT002G20 (20% standard glass fiber reinforced PEI): For servo electric control insulated brackets. Leveraging Wanrun’s scaled modification advantages, it delivers uniform glass fiber dispersion and minor batch physical property fluctuations with a heat deflection temperature of 208℃ and stable insulation performance, compatible with the client’s high-speed injection mass production. Comprehensive procurement costs dropped by 27% compared with imported SABIC 2200, securing annual main material procurement of 42 tons.
3. WOTE WOTLON-LV low-volatility 20% glass fiber modified PEI: For semiconductor precision test fixtures. WOTE grades feature ultra-low shrinkage, minimal small-molecule precipitation and stable high-frequency dielectric properties. Third-party testing commissioned by HiSiaddi confirmed dimensional deviation <0.02mm after 1000 hours of 85℃ humidity-heat cycling, meeting micron-level precision requirements for the German client’s semiconductor components and filling Wanrun’s product gap in ultra-low-precipitation precision materials as high-end special material with annual segmented procurement of 30 tons.
After issuing the selection scheme, HiSiaddi compiled a Chinese-English bilingual Horizontal Evaluation Report of Five Domestic PEI Brands, attached with unified ASTM test data, COA quality inspection certificates for each grade, REACH/UL compliance certificates, quotation breakdowns and delivery lead time comparison tables, clearly marking matching logic, advantages and disadvantages and cost reduction ranges of the three selected grades. The German material team conducted internal review for one week against the report, completely eliminating brand cognitive blind spots and confirming the rationality of the selection scheme, immediately issuing a total procurement order of 72 tons divided into three batches.
HiSiaddi coordinated Wanrun and WOTE to ship 25kg samples of each of the three grades, with supporting injection molding process guidance documents attached. The German side conducted on-machine trial production across three domestic production lines in Germany: Wanrun’s two grades were used to mass-produce sensor housings and electric control brackets with a yield rate of 99.2%; WOTE’s LV grade was processed into semiconductor test fixtures without warpage or volatile precipitation and compliant dielectric parameters, fully passing third-party incoming testing by Bosch Group, with all indicators of domestic materials benchmarking the original imported SABIC raw materials.
The first batch of 22 tons of raw materials completed domestic customs clearance and sea freight to Germany. HiSiaddi followed up full-process production sampling inspection, container loading and ocean logistics, attaching batch traceability reports, SDS safety data sheets and original factory quality inspection certificates for each batch. The subsequent two batches totaling 50 tons were delivered monthly in installments aligned with the client’s production schedule. Wanrun relied on scaled production capacity to guarantee stable delivery of bulk raw materials, while WOTE leveraged flexible production lines to ensure on-time shipment of high-end precision materials.
Six months after commissioning the first batch of raw materials, the German client reported stable performance of the three grades with significantly reduced supply chain costs, formally terminating its single-source procurement channel from SABIC and entrusting HiSiaddi with material selection and matching for raw materials of its new miniature high-temperature valve components. In the following year, the client increased annual procurement volume by 45 tons, retaining the dual-brand supply model of Wanrun + WOTE for stable long-term cooperation.
Restricted by self-owned production capacity, formula R&D directions and product line layouts, domestic PEI manufacturers generally prioritize promoting self-owned products and avoid introducing competitive brand advantages. Overseas mid-to-high-end clients with long-term experience using imported SABIC PEI lack awareness of technical gradients, grade segmentation and performance differences of domestic brands, easily falling into risks of one-sided selection and misselected raw materials. Traditional foreign trade only connects single supply sources, unable to conduct neutral horizontal full-brand evaluation. Supported by polymer material professional reserves and full industrial chain resources, HiSiaddi breaks free from single-factory interest orientation, objectively analyzes strengths and weaknesses of five top domestic PEI brands, eliminates two manufacturers with mismatched performance, delivery and cost, and accurately locks Wanrun and WOTE as matching brands alongside three core grades. It leverages Wanrun’s scaled mass production advantages to control bulk raw material procurement costs while drawing on WOTE’s precision modification technology to fill gaps in high-end semiconductor material performance, balancing mass production cost-effectiveness and high-end product performance requirements.
After implementing this project, the German client achieved import substitution and cost reduction while adopting a dual-brand domestic supply chain to avoid risks of production suspension from single-supplier disruption. This serves as a typical implementation case of technology-driven foreign trade connecting overseas high-end clients with domestic high-performance new material supply chains through neutral full-brand evaluation and selection, also verifying that neutral and objective full-brand evaluation and selection constitute a key link for overseas mid-to-high-end clients to implement domestic PEI procurement.
