HiSiaddi is an innovative foreign trade service provider driven by dual engines of technology commercialization and foreign trade services. It has established a "1+2+3+4=1" service system and can supply silicon nitride powder from multiple well-known original manufacturers. As an R&D-focused new-type foreign trade trader, HiSiaddi has repeatedly addressed customized product demands for silicon nitride powder by leveraging technological cooperation with factories and precise insight into market demands. Below is a case of HiSiaddi resolving customized silicon nitride powder requirements.

CarboSem GmbH, Germany, is a core raw material supplier of mid-to-high-end power semiconductor substrates and IGBT modules for new energy vehicles in Europe. Its products support automotive electronic control components of Bosch and Infineon. The company has long purchased high-end silicon nitride powder from Ube Industries, Japan. In 2025, it launched localization substitution and entrusted HiSiaddi to customize vehicle-grade special silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) powder, with an annual total procurement volume of 120 tons, representing rigorous mid-to-high-end customized raw material demand.
1. Crystal phase: α phase ≥92%, β phase ≤5%, free silicon-free;
2. Particle size: D50 = 0.8~1.0 μm, D90 ≤2.2 μm, particle size span D90/D10 <2.8 to eliminate oversized agglomerated particles;
3. Impurity control: Total oxygen ≤0.9 wt%, single impurities of Fe, Al, Ca <15 ppm, alkali metals K, Na <1 ppm (mandatory semiconductor requirement to prevent ion migration);
4. Additional customization: Mild surface modification of powder to match the customer’s self-developed nitrogen atmosphere tape casting forming process, with green body forming density ≥1.85 g/cm³.
1. Difficult matching of formula and process: Most conventional mass-produced silicon nitride in China is for general sintering applications, with α phase generally ranging from 82% to 88% and oxygen content between 1.2% and 1.8%. Factories operate fixed combustion synthesis/carbothermal reduction production lines; parameter adjustment requires line shutdown and technical renovation, resulting in failed indicators after 3 rounds of sample trials at multiple manufacturers.
2. Deficiencies in refined post-processing: Ordinary jet milling can only control particle size above 1.5 μm, while ultra-fine classification tends to introduce metallic impurities from equipment, making it impossible to limit metallic impurities below 15 ppm.
3. Unstable mass production consistency: While small lab samples meet standards, 500 kg pilot batches suffer from crystal phase fluctuations and unstable oxygen content. Factories lack full-chain traceability control over batches, and vehicle-grade products reject batch-to-batch discrepancies.
The customer contacted 4 domestic powder manufacturers without success, delaying R&D progress and the scheduled mass production plan for chip substrates. The company fully entrusted HiSiaddi to coordinate the entire chain including customized R&D, factory technical renovation, sample delivery and mass production control.
Relying on leading domestic silicon nitride resources, HiSiaddi locked two specialized new material factories in Shandong and Jiangsu equipped with high-purity combustion synthesis production lines. It coordinated the factories to allocate dedicated R&D production lines free from interference from general mass production lines:
· Optimized segmented temperature control in high-temperature nitriding furnaces and adjusted silicon powder nitriding holding time to precisely raise α phase proportion to 92.5%;
· Adopted closed nitriding environment with high-purity nitrogen, paired with low-temperature hydrogen deoxidation process to reduce total powder oxygen from 1.3% to 0.82%, meeting the 0.9% upper limit of customized standards.
1. Adopted full ceramic-lined jet mills (no iron cavities) with closed-loop milling under nitrogen protection to eliminate Fe and Al impurities introduced by equipment wear;
2. Deployed multi-stage precision jet classification equipment for three gradient sorting processes, stably achieving D50=0.9 μm with particle size distribution fully complying with customer specifications. All impurities were controlled below 12 ppm, and alkali metal content was reduced to less than 0.8 ppm.
HiSiaddi collaborated with the factory’s powder modification laboratory to select halogen-free organic modifiers for low-temperature coating modification in line with the customer’s tape casting formula, resolving agglomeration of ultra-fine silicon nitride powder. The customer measured stable green body forming density of 1.87~1.90 g/cm³, exceeding the customized lower limit standard.
HiSiaddi led the formulation of exclusive factory inspection specifications for customized materials: each batch undergoes XRD crystal phase testing, laser particle size analysis, oxygen-nitrogen elemental analysis and full ICP impurity screening, with CNAS third-party COA test reports attached to each shipment. Fixed silicon powder grades, furnace process parameters and dedicated production teams were deployed at the production end to prevent indicator drift across mass production batches.
1. Small sample stage (5 kg per batch): HiSiaddi uniformly packed samples in vacuum aluminum foil moisture-proof packaging and airfreighted them to German laboratories. The customer completed full reliability tests including tape casting forming, high-temperature sintering and substrate thermal conductivity measurement, and all three rounds of small samples passed automotive AEC-Q200 certification.
2. Pilot production stage (500 kg per batch): The factory achieved stable mass production across three consecutive batches without obvious indicator fluctuations. The customer launched the IGBT substrate mass production line, and finished substrate bending strength and thermal conductivity fully matched the original Japanese imported powder.
3. Annual order finalization: The customer confirmed a full-year 120-ton order delivered in 6 batches, including 108 tons of standard customized powder and 12 tons of small-batch R&D modified special silicon nitride. HiSiaddi coordinated overall production scheduling, packaging and export customs clearance.
1. Industry pain points: Domestic silicon nitride factories mainly mass-produce general-grade products with fixed production lines. Non-standard vehicle-grade customization requires production line technical renovation and dedicated R&D. Factories lack capabilities in technical translation, demand decomposition and quality control implementation when engaging overseas customers alone, creating barriers for high-end overseas customers to select customized products.
2. Core value of HiSiaddi: As a third-party foreign trade service provider, HiSiaddi closes the loop of "demand decomposition – targeted factory technical renovation – formula customization – full-process quality control – export compliance", making up for manufacturers’ shortcomings in commercial communication and overseas process docking, and realizing delivery of high-end non-standard customized products.
3. Follow-up cooperation: In the following year, the customer added customized procurement of aluminum nitride and high-purity silicon carbide powder, all exclusively entrusted to HiSiaddi. Building on this project, HiSiaddi subsequently developed two leading European power ceramic substrate clients in Austria and France.
