Client: Italy ColorTech A leading European manufacturer of premium industrial coatings, wood coatings and automotive refinish paints, supplying Ferrari, Lamborghini and top-tier European furniture brands. The enterprise strictly complies with stringent regulations including EU REACH, VOC limits, food contact standards, low odor requirements and anti-yellowing specifications. As a quality and technology-focused mid-to-high-end manufacturer, product performance and formula compatibility take priority over procurement costs.
The client developed a new generation of low-VOC anti-yellowing premium wood topcoat and selected special aliphatic derivative blends as dual-function additives for leveling and defoaming, putting forward exclusive customized indicators. Early communication with multiple domestic manufacturers only yielded standard off-the-shelf blends, which could not adjust component ratios and physical & chemical parameters based on coating systems and construction conditions, halting the client’s R&D progress. The client finally entrusted HiSiaddi to coordinate technical communication, formula blending optimization, multi-round sampling, pilot mass production and full-delivery support.
Based on the working conditions of normal-temperature spraying, low-temperature baking and long-term indoor service of wood coatings, the client specified four customized indicators, which are major limitations of generic commercial blends:
1. Precisely Customized Component Ratio The primary aliphatic derivative A and auxiliary functional aliphatic derivative B must be blended at a fixed ratio of 7:3 with a deviation no higher than ±0.5%, to balance leveling and defoaming performance. Standard commercial products feature fixed ratios that cannot be adjusted on demand.
2. Ultra-Low VOC & Low Odor Volatile organic compound content ≤80g/L with no pungent odor, complying with EU coating VOC control and indoor environmental standards. Conventional blends contain excessive residual solvents, failing VOC and odor requirements.
3. Enhanced Anti-Yellowing Performance After 500h UV accelerated aging test, the film color difference ΔE ≤1.0, suitable for premium light-colored wood coatings. Ordinary products oxidize and discolor easily, failing to meet high-end finishing standards.
4. Full System Compatibility Fully compatible with polyurethane and acrylic resin systems; no craters, pinholes or oil spots after spraying, without compromising film gloss and adhesion.
Most domestic manufacturers adopt standardized blending processes and refuse to adjust formulas and purification processes for niche high-end demands, resulting in weak customized service capacity and delayed delivery of the client’s requirements.
HiSiaddi formed a technical team and partnered with domestic factories specializing in high-end coating additive R&D. We tackled all technical challenges step by step following the workflow: demand breakdown → formula blending optimization → sample iteration → machine trial production → exclusive mass production → compliance supporting.
We organized online technical meetings between both parties and signed bilingual Chinese-English technical agreements to lock indicator thresholds and testing standards. Testing and analysis revealed the core defects of generic commercial products: fixed unadjustable component ratios; insufficient removal of residual solvents during synthesis and blending leading to excessive VOC; simple antioxidant systems for aliphatic components resulting in weak UV resistance; mismatched surface tension causing incompatibility with coating materials. Targeted optimization plans were formulated accordingly.
1. Precise Ratio Blending Blending was carried out strictly at the 7:3 ratio with a closed automatic feeding system that monitors component proportions in real time, controlling the ratio error within ±0.2% to guarantee stable and balanced leveling and defoaming performance.
2. Deep Solvent Removal for Strict VOC & Odor Control Multi-stage vacuum distillation and nitrogen purging processes were added to thoroughly strip low-boiling residual solvents generated during production. The final product achieved a VOC value of 65g/L, meeting the highest EU indoor coating odor standards.
3. Blended Antioxidant Components to Boost Anti-Yellowing Performance Food-grade aliphatic antioxidant additives were incorporated into the blend system without altering core functional properties, strengthening molecular anti-UV and anti-oxidation capacity. The film color difference ΔE only reached 0.7 after 500h UV aging test.
4. Fine-Tuned Surface Activity for Improved Compatibility The surface activity of derivative molecules was adjusted to match the interfacial tension of polyurethane and acrylic resin systems, completely eliminating film defects including craters, pinholes and oil spots after spraying.
· First batch sample: Ratio and VOC met standards, but anti-yellowing performance was subpar. Antioxidant dosage was adjusted for rectification.
· Second batch sample: All indicators passed inspection. The client completed full-process trial production including coating mixing, on-site spraying and baking, with excellent film gloss and adhesion results.
The client completed anti-aging and environmental testing, with all test data exceeding agreed standards, and formally finalized the mass production formula and process.
The factory launched an independent production line exclusively for this customized product, with separate raw material storage tanks to avoid cross-contamination. The first customized order of 2.8 tons underwent batch-by-batch sampling and testing throughout production. English quality inspection reports, component analysis reports, VOC test reports and anti-yellowing test reports were delivered with goods to realize full batch traceability.
Sealed thick plastic drums with inner anti-seepage lids were adopted to prevent volatilization and leakage during ocean shipping. Outer packaging was labeled with English product name, customized blending ratio, batch number and GHS hazard markings. A full set of compliance documents including REACH certificates, VOC test reports and English SDS were provided alongside bilingual Chinese-English usage guidelines specifying recommended dosage, construction temperature and storage conditions.
1. Full Delivery of Customized Requirements 2.8 tons of customized blended products were delivered smoothly with all indicators fully compliant. The finished wood coatings passed full certification of top-tier European furniture brands and entered formal mass production.
2. Improved Production Quality Excellent compatibility between additives and coating materials raised spraying yield rate from 86% to 99.4%, with stable film appearance and weather resistance.
3. Long-Term In-Depth Cooperation The client designated this customized blend as its core additive, placing stable monthly orders of 2–3 tons. Later, the client entrusted HiSiaddi with customization and procurement of multiple special aliphatic additives and functional coating blends.
4. Expanded Market Reputation The client recommended our services to two peer high-end coating manufacturers in Italy and Spain, supporting HiSiaddi’s market expansion across Southern Europe’s premium coating sector.
As a purchaser in the high-end coating industry, this Italian client required not only basic raw materials but also customized blending solutions tailored to exclusive formulas and construction scenarios. Most domestic manufacturers focus on standardized mass production and lack capacity for refined formula adjustment and process optimization, making them unable to fulfill high-end customized demands.
HiSiaddi integrated upstream and downstream technical resources to deliver full-chain optimization covering precise blending, solvent removal, weather resistance modification and quality-controlled delivery, solving all customization challenges in one stop. Breaking away from traditional supply-only models, we built trust via professional technical services and transformed into a solution provider for high-end fine chemical customization, establishing long-term stable strategic partnerships with clients.
