The purchaser is INCO Ink GmbH based in Munich, Germany, a leading mid-to-high-end European UV electronic ink manufacturer with a 36-year production history. Its core products include PCB solder mask ink, UV protective coating ink for automotive touch panels, and eco-friendly high-grade tobacco package varnish. Its finished products are mass-supplied to Siemens, Bosch Automotive Electronics, and top European cigarette groups. The full product line complies with EU REACH, RoHS, Germany EC 1907 food contact regulations, and CLP chemical regulations. Finished inks must pass Germany VDE electrical safety testing and LFGB indirect food contact testing, making it an end producer with extremely high access thresholds in the global UV ink sector.
The enterprise previously long imported original SR351 TMPTA (trimethylolpropane triacrylate) from Sartomer USA. However, sustained disruptions to supply stability emerged due to maintenance shutdowns of European and American chemical plants, raw material price hikes, and ocean freight transit times extended to over 90 days. It thus launched a localization replacement project for domestically-produced customized TMPTA, with an annual total demand of 320 tons. All required materials were customized high-purity grades with low polymerization inhibition, low color, and low residual monomers, excluding standard industrial-grade TMPTA available on the market.
The customer independently contacted three mainstream domestic TMPTA manufacturers in the early stage, all of which could only supply standard universal products on the market. Conventional national standard TMPTA features the following general indicators: APHA color ≤50, acid value ≤0.1mgKOH/g, MEHQ polymerization inhibitor content 180~350ppm, residual monoalcohol impurities ≥1200ppm. These failed to meet the customer’s stringent customized specifications. Restricted by fixed production line processes, manufacturers were unwilling to retrofit equipment or adjust formulas for small-batch customized R&D. Six consecutive sample trials resulted in three major production defects: sticky surface after ink curing, yellowing of PCB coatings under long-term high-temperature storage, and pinhole defects on high-precision PCB coatings. All six trial batches were scrapped, incurring laboratory raw material losses and formula debugging costs exceeding 12,800 EUR, stalling customized material selection.
Recommended by European chemical industry peers, the customer fully entrusted HiSiaddi with the full-cycle work including customized exclusive grade R&D, pilot mass production, full-chain compliance, and phased export performance.
HiSiaddi has over a decade of deep engagement with UV acrylate monomers as a technology-based foreign trade service provider, rather than an exclusive agent for a single factory. We maintain an in-house team of UV chemical formulation engineers and partner with three top domestic manufacturers equipped with fine distillation customized production lines. Our team possesses expertise in TMPTA esterification synthesis, multi-stage negative pressure distillation, and precise polymerization inhibitor regulation. We are well-versed in EU ink raw material regulations and third-party SGS testing standards, enabling us to collaborate with factory R&D departments to tailor indicators and partially revamp production processes. This differentiates us from ordinary foreign traders who only resell spot goods without capacity to optimize product formulas.
For this project, HiSiaddi acted as a technical intermediary bridging the customer’s formulation requirements and domestic manufacturers’ mass production processes based on the customer’s ink formulation operating conditions.
Combined with INCO Ink’s three ink formulation systems, the customer issued a bilingual (German + Chinese/English) customized technical agreement specifying four core customized parameters, all more stringent than domestic national standard TMPTA:
1. APHA color ≤10 (universal market products generally range from APHA 30~50; low color prevents long-term yellowing of stored ink);
2. Precisely controlled MEHQ polymerization inhibitor at 80±10ppm (conventional products contain 180~350ppm MEHQ; excessive inhibitor causes incomplete deep UV curing and sticky surface);
3. Residual free trimethylolpropane ≤300ppm (national standard products ≥1000ppm; residual alcohol impurities trigger pinhole defects on PCB coatings);
4. Acid value ≤0.04mgKOH/g, moisture ≤0.05%, all raw material by-products compliant with the latest REACH-SVHC control list, suitable for tobacco package ink with indirect food contact.
In addition, the customer imposed supplementary customized supporting requirements: nitrogen-sealed 200L galvanized internally coated barrels, German-recognized full-item SGS test reports for each batch, English-German bilingual CLP compliant labels, and SDS documents aligned with the 9th edition of REACH specifications.
HiSiaddi audited five domestic TMPTA manufacturers and eliminated two that only mass-produced standard industrial-grade materials without adjustable distillation production lines. We ultimately selected two fine chemical manufacturers with flexible continuous negative pressure distillation lines. We coordinated video technical briefings between factory R&D engineers and the German customer to dissect process improvement challenges corresponding to each customized indicator one by one:
1. Low APHA color ≤10: Revamp single-stage distillation into three-stage high-vacuum precision distillation with full nitrogen-sealed protection to avoid colored by-products generated by high-temperature oxidation;
2. Precise low MEHQ polymerization inhibitor at 80ppm: Abandon the traditional post-production bulk inhibitor addition process, replacing it with micro precise dripping mid-synthesis and real-time online chromatographic content monitoring to control residual inhibitor at the source;
3. Low free monomer residual ≤300ppm: Extend residence time in the distillation recovery section and install side-stream impurity cutting equipment to separate unreacted trimethylolpropane feedstock and small-molecule acrylic by-products;
4. Ultra-low acid value and moisture: Optimize esterification catalyst ratios and implement molecular sieve deep dehydration at the finished product stage to tightly control moisture content.
1. Lab trial (5kg customized samples): Based on the ink formulation parameters provided by HiSiaddi, the factory completed three rounds of formula fine-tuning. Full-item testing of samples was conducted at a domestic CMA-accredited third-party laboratory, confirming compliance with all four customized indicators. HiSiaddi shipped the samples to the customer’s laboratory in Germany.
2. Customer formulation pilot production (200kg pilot batch): The customer replicated its existing ink formulations on German mass production lines, conducting continuous 72-hour trial runs across three lines for PCB solder mask ink, touch panel protective coating, and eco-friendly tobacco package varnish. Finished products passed VDE high-temperature aging resistance and LFGB migration testing with no yellowing, pinholes, or sticky curing defects, with overall performance fully comparable to imported Sartomer SR351.
3. Mass production finalization: Exclusive customized grade INCO-TMPTA01 was finalized. Dedicated production shifts and storage tanks were assigned at the factory to eliminate cross-contamination with standard materials. The complete customized production process was archived to guarantee consistent indicators across all subsequent batches, with inter-batch data deviation controlled within ±5%.
1. Customized packaging: HiSiaddi coordinated packaging manufacturers to produce rust-proof galvanized iron barrels with internal coating, pre-filled with nitrogen before factory sealing to prevent product oxidation and discoloration during long-distance ocean shipping, meeting dust-free feeding and warehousing standards for European factories.
2. One-stop compilation of compliance documents: HiSiaddi compliance engineers compiled English-German bilingual SDS safety data sheets and GHS-compliant outer packaging labels aligned with EU CLP and the 9th edition of REACH specifications. We coordinated dedicated SGS testing for each batch to issue factory COA reports, SVHC 251-item screening reports, and LFGB statements of conformity recognized by German laboratories. Full sets of documents were delivered alongside goods for customs declaration and clearance, resolving the pain point of mismatched original manufacturer documentation for European warehouse admission audits.
1. Phased delivery of the annual 320-ton customized order: The order was split into 195 tons of customized TMPTA dedicated to PCB ink and 125 tons for tobacco package/touch panel ink, shipped in 11 monthly batches throughout the year. Zero customs inspections at Shanghai Port and zero compliance issues during clearance at Hamburg Port, Germany; retained samples of all batches passed re-inspection and met customized indicators.
2. Optimized procurement costs: Localized customized procurement unit price decreased by 33% compared with original US imports, and ocean transit time was shortened from 90 days to 28 days, enabling the customer to significantly optimize global raw material supply chain costs and stocking cycles.
3. Deep long-term cooperation established: INCO Ink Group terminated its single-source procurement model for European and American original manufacturers, entrusting HiSiaddi with customized procurement and compliance management for three additional high-end UV monomers including dipropylene glycol diacrylate (TPGDA) and ethoxylated TMPTA. In the following year, the customer launched a new new energy battery insulation coating project and placed an additional annual order of 115 tons for customized low-irritation modified TMPTA.
4. Empowerment for upstream factory product upgrading: Supported by continuous technical liaison from HiSiaddi, partner factories perfected mass production systems for high-end customized TMPTA. This exclusive customized grade subsequently entered the supply chains of three other mid-to-high-end European ink manufacturers, driving steady growth in export orders for high-end customized monomers.
The vast majority of domestic TMPTA manufacturers focus on mass production of standard national standard products with fixed production lines and feeding formulas. Restricted by production costs and production line scheduling, few are willing to revamp processes or develop exclusive customized grades for overseas mid-to-high-end customers. This constitutes the core barrier preventing domestically-produced UV monomers from entering high-end European and American electronic and food-grade ink industrial chains. Mid-to-high-end overseas end customers enforce stringent EU regulations and acceptance standards set by downstream leading brands, imposing strict requirements on subtle indicators such as monomer color, impurities, and inhibitor content; standard industrial-grade raw materials are entirely incompatible with mass production demands.
Breaking away from the traditional foreign trade model of simple supply matching, HiSiaddi acts as a technical bridge between overseas customers and domestic fine chemical manufacturers relying on chemical R&D reserves. We deliver closed-loop full-cycle solutions covering customized formula R&D, process improvement, sample verification, customized packaging, and cross-border compliance. This not only helps leading German customers achieve localized replacement of imported raw materials and cut procurement costs, but also empowers high-quality domestic chemical manufacturers to tap into overseas high-end customized monomer markets, realizing two-way empowerment for both supply and demand sides.
