It is a high-threshold technical end-user that has long imported high-purity hydroquinone bis(hydroxyethyl) ether (HQEE, CAS: 104-38-1, HiSiaddi HS Code: 2909499990) from BASF (Germany) and Kyowa Chemical (Japan).
In 2025, surging European and American chemical raw material prices and extended production lead times of over 3 months for overseas major chemical suppliers pushed the client’s R&D center to launch a domestic raw material substitution program. Our technical engineers collaborated with the factory R&D team to abandon the conventional one-step atmospheric catalytic synthesis route and deploy a two-stage synthesis + vacuum rectification integrated process:
1. Select high-purity hydroquinone and ethylene oxide feedstocks with pre-treatment impurity removal before feeding;
2. Implement staged temperature-controlled catalytic addition, adjusting catalyst dosage and reactor pressure in phases to reduce residual unreacted free hydroquinone;
3. Add a continuous thin-film vacuum rectification section to separate ethylene glycol, low-polyether and other by-products; collect high-purity intermediate distillate fractions and discard impurity-rich head and tail distillates.
