    Case 3: Domestic PCL Brand Selection Implementation Project for a High-End Biomaterial Enterprise in Switzerland

    HiSiaddi conducts neutral horizontal evaluation of 5 major brands and selects 2 leading manufacturers with 3 grades to realize stable procurement

    1. Basic Customer Information

    The cooperating customer is MedNova AG, a biomedical limited company headquartered in the biomedical industrial park of Zurich, Switzerland. It is a specialized medium-to-high-end medical material manufacturer deeply engaged in three product lines: absorbable orthopedic filling stents, drug sustained-release microspheres and medical aesthetic subcutaneous injection filling materials. Its products are supplied to federal public hospitals across Switzerland, multiple listed pharmaceutical enterprises and chain medical aesthetic institutions in Western Europe. All raw materials of its full product line comply with EU MDR medical device regulations, ISO 10993 biocompatibility standards and USP pharmacopoeia specifications for medical raw materials. It has long purchased original imported medical-grade PCL pellets from Corbion (Netherlands) and Evonik (Germany), with an annual stable PCL procurement volume of 190 tons, representing a typical high-standard and high-value-added overseas high-end raw material purchaser.

    Affected by maintenance shutdowns of local European chemical facilities, surging international ocean freight costs and extended customized grade lead times of over 90 days from overseas original manufacturers, MedNova launched a localized Chinese raw material substitution procurement plan covering three major application types: high-viscosity grade for 3D printed porous orthopedic stents, medium-viscosity grade for emulsion-based drug sustained-release microspheres and low-viscosity modified grade compatible with emulsification production of medical aesthetic injection microspheres, with an initial trial order of 38 tons.

    The customer independently contacted five mainstream domestic PCL manufacturers for inquiries and samples in advance, yet encountered common industry pain points: each manufacturer only promotes its own products without deliberately belittling competitors, but fails to objectively benchmark competitors’ advantages, disadvantages and applicable scenarios due to sales interests. Lacking a domestic PCL industry database, the customer could not distinguish brand positioning, grade parameters and process differences of various manufacturers. After receiving 12 different batches of samples with uneven physical and chemical data, laboratory small-scale tests revealed defects including easily cracked stents, agglomerated microspheres and deviated degradation cycles, consuming nearly CHF 18,000 in sample testing costs and stalling the brand selection process.

    Recommended by the Swiss Chemical Raw Materials Industry Association, the customer fully entrusted Shanghai HiSiaddi Technology (referred to as HiSiaddi) as a neutral third-party technical foreign trade service provider. Relying on HiSiaddi’s team of material engineers and full industrial chain resources of domestic PCL, we horizontally disassembled the factory qualifications, process routes, main grade parameters, advantages and disadvantages of five mainstream medium-to-high-end domestic PCL brands. Combined with the customer’s three end-product application scenarios, we neutrally screened two leading brands and three precisely matching grades, completing sample retesting, small-batch trial production and mass procurement implementation.

    Product category: Medical-grade PCL pellets, HS code 3907999000, export packaging in 25kg sterile cardboard drums lined with aluminum foil, divided into three customized grades: high-viscosity, medium-viscosity and low-viscosity.

    2. Core Pain Points Hindering Customer Brand Selection: One-Sided Manufacturer Promotion & Insufficient Customer Brand Discrimination Capacity

    (1) Sales Rules of Domestic PCL Manufacturers: Self-Focused Promotion, Avoiding Objective Advantages of Competitors

    The top domestic medical-grade PCL mass production manufacturers in the first tier include Hunan Jurun New Materials, Shenzhen Jusheng Bio (eSUNMED), Shandong Weigao Medical Polymers, Xiamen SinoBiomatrix and Jiangsu Nanda Optoelectronics. After contacting all five manufacturers one by one, the customer found that sales staff of each factory only introduced their own production capacity, compliance qualifications and grade advantages, while only briefly outlining general categories when introducing competitors, avoiding competitors’ technical highlights and applicable scenarios:

    1. Hunan Jurun mainly promotes full series of general and medical grades without mentioning the technical advantages of Shenzhen Jusheng in narrow-distribution polymerization and impurity control for medical aesthetic injection-grade PCL;

    2. Shenzhen Jusheng focuses on promotion of medical aesthetic raw materials while avoiding the advantages of Shandong Weigao in GMP clean production lines for orthopedic implant raw materials and supporting services for medical device registration; The remaining three manufacturers follow the same logic, all based on self-product sales without cross-brand horizontal benchmark explanations, preventing the customer from distinguishing grade adaptability solely through one-sided manufacturer introductions.

    (2) Customer’s Own Shortcomings: Unfamiliarity with Domestic Brand System & Inability to Match Parameters with Applications

    The customer has long used imported European PCL, with grade classification relying on three indicators: molecular weight, devolatilization process and catalyst residue. However, domestic PCL manufacturers adopt inconsistent grade naming rules, and significant gaps exist in processes, impurity content and crystallinity between different brands even within the same molecular weight range. For PCL nominally labeled 80,000 Mn molecular weight, some brands feature PDI>1.7 and monomer residue>250ppm, while others achieve PDI≤1.35 and monomer residue<150ppm. The customer cannot verify data authenticity solely through manufacturer-provided COA reports, resulting in a laboratory test pass rate below 35% after blind sample collection, and failure to lock matching raw materials despite massive testing investment, stalling the project for nearly 45 days.

    Mandatory core raw material indicators required by the customer:

    1. High-viscosity PCL (orthopedic stents): Mn 82,000±2,000, PDI ≤1.35, monomer residue <150ppm, compatible with FDM 3D printing, degradation cycle 25±2 months;

    2. Medium-viscosity PCL (drug sustained-release microspheres): Mn 39,000±1,500, PDI ≤1.32, tin residue ≤20ppm, D50 of microspheres prepared via emulsification controllable within 20~50μm;

    3. Low-viscosity modified PCL (medical aesthetic injection microspheres): Mn 22,000±1,000, stable melt fluidity, low small-molecule oligomer content to avoid subcutaneous nodules after injection.

    3. Neutral Horizontal Evaluation of 5 Major Domestic Medium-to-High-End PCL Brands Conducted by HiSiaddi with Full Breakdown of Advantages & Disadvantages

    HiSiaddi assigned two polymer engineers to access on-site production capacity, production line qualifications, measured data of mainstream grades and downstream end-product application cases of the five manufacturers, completing a full-dimensional benchmark analysis from a neutral third-party perspective without bias toward any manufacturer, and fully sorting out core information of the five brands:

    4. HiSiaddi Selects 2 Leading Brands & 3 Matching Grades Combining Customer’s Three Application Scenarios

    Comprehensively evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of the five brands, the customer’s annual procurement volume of nearly 200 tons for simultaneous purchase of three grades, end-product processing requirements and cost budget, HiSiaddi neutrally finalized two domestic medium-to-high-end leading brands: Hunan Jurun and Shenzhen Jusheng, screening three precisely matching grades corresponding to different scenarios:

    1. High-viscosity raw material for orthopedic 3D printing → Hunan Jurun PCL-H80 grade (Mn 82,000, PDI 1.33) Leveraging Jurun’s mass production advantages, its mechanical strength and molecular weight stability perfectly match the customer’s orthopedic stent molding requirements with stable supply capacity to meet continuous replenishment demands of annual hundreds-of-ton orders.

    2. Medium-viscosity raw material for drug sustained release → Hunan Jurun PCL-M40 grade (Mn 39,000, PDI 1.31) Mature mass production of medium-viscosity grades with tin residue at 17ppm and monomer residue at 128ppm, compatible with mass production of emulsion-based microspheres while balancing quality and procurement costs.

    3. Low-viscosity modified raw material for medical aesthetic injection → Shenzhen Jusheng MED-L22 grade (Mn 22,000, PDI 1.27) Jusheng specializes in injection-grade processes with industry-leading impurity indicators to avoid microsphere agglomeration and subcutaneous nodule defects, matching the customer’s medical aesthetic filling product line.

    Brand selection logic explanation: Reasons for eliminating Weigao, SinoBiomatrix and Nanda Optoelectronics: Weigao lacks mass-produced low-viscosity medical aesthetic grades; SinoBiomatrix and Nanda Optoelectronics cannot meet the customer’s demand for stable annual mass procurement of hundreds of tons, inconsistent with the customer’s long-term stable procurement planning.

    HiSiaddi coordinated both manufacturers to provide 20kg samples each (60kg total) sent to the customer’s laboratory in Switzerland in three batches, assisting the customer in sorting out Chinese-English-German three-version cross-brand comparison reports, original COA and SDS compliance qualification documents.

    5. Sample Verification Implementation & Mass Procurement Cooperation Outcomes

    (1) Full Compliance of Laboratory Small-Batch Tests

    Full physical and chemical property testing and production machine verification of the three grades at the Swiss laboratory:

    1. Jurun PCL-H80 orthopedic material: No filament breakage or warpage during 3D printing, measured degradation cycle of 24.7 months within the customer’s indicator tolerance range with a pass rate of 97.3%;

    2. Jurun PCL-M40 sustained-release material: D50 fluctuation of emulsion microspheres ≤5μm, drug encapsulation efficiency of 86.7% without infinite agglomeration;

    3. Jusheng MED-L22 medical aesthetic material: No agglomeration during emulsification of injection microspheres, qualified short-term in-vivo irritation tests meeting EU medical aesthetic raw material access specifications.

    All three raw materials passed the customer’s incoming material audit. The initial 38-ton order was split into PCL-H80 (21 tons), PCL-M40 (12 tons) and MED-L22 (5 tons), shipped in two batches from Shanghai Port to Zurich. HiSiaddi took full charge of export customs declaration, pre-review of EU REACH compliance, SCIP notification and customized bilingual RoHS labels, enabling customs clearance and warehousing within 3 working days upon cargo arrival.

    (2) Signing of Annual Long-Term Procurement Framework Agreement

    Three months after smooth production launch of the goods, MedNova AG from Switzerland signed an annual procurement framework agreement with HiSiaddi, locking in an annual PCL procurement volume of 185 tons with fixed sourcing of the above three grades. Relying on HiSiaddi’s neutral brand selection service advantages, the customer entrusted HiSiaddi to coordinate brand screening and sample follow-up for new R&D demands of modified PCL for absorbable nerve conduits.

    (3) Customer Cost Optimization Outcomes

    After adopting selected domestic grades, the customer’s comprehensive raw material procurement cost decreased by 28.2% compared with original imported European raw materials, directly saving over CHF 320,000 in annual raw material procurement expenses. Meanwhile, delivery cycles of domestic raw materials were shortened to 22~30 days, completely resolving pain points of excessively long lead times and unstable supply chains from overseas original manufacturers.

    (4) Replication of HiSiaddi Brand Selection Service Model

    Leveraging this benchmark PCL brand selection implementation case for high-end Swiss customers, HiSiaddi relied on the customer’s local industry resources in Switzerland to successfully contact two medical consumable enterprises in Finland and Norway, replicating the integrated service model of "multi-brand neutral evaluation + scenario-based precise grade recommendation" and delivering multiple batches of samples and mass orders, forming differentiated core competitiveness distinguishing HiSiaddi from traditional traders "bound to a single manufacturer only promoting self-owned supplies".

    6. Project Summary

    The industry pain points of this case focus on single sales orientation of domestic PCL manufacturers and opaque brand information, while high-end overseas end-users lack industry awareness of domestic raw materials and cannot independently conduct cross-brand horizontal selection. Breaking free from the interest restraint of raw material agency, HiSiaddi acts as a neutral third-party technical service provider to horizontally disassemble the production capacity, processes, grade advantages and disadvantages of five domestic medium-to-high-end brands, and accurately select brands and grades based on the customer’s actual end-product production scenarios. This not only avoids high testing losses caused by blind sample testing for customers but also realizes domestic substitution leveraging the mass production advantages of domestic leading manufacturers and refined technical strengths of specialized manufacturers. Against the backdrop of diversified development of global medical polymer raw material supply chains, neutralized and technical brand selection services serve as the key path for chemical foreign trade to deeply cultivate high-end overseas customers, break free from single supply binding and enhance customer stickiness.
