The purchaser is Nord-Coat AB based in Sweden, a leading mid-to-high-end Northern European industrial UV coating enterprise specializing in UV topcoats for automotive plastic parts and optical film protective coatings, with supporting clients including Volvo and Ericsson. Raw materials comply with EU REACH, RoHS, and Northern European food contact environmental standards. The company has long imported European and American TMPTA and planned localized cost reduction via domestic Chinese raw material sourcing, conducting its first on-site screening of domestic TMPTA suppliers in China.
The customer independently contacted five leading domestic TMPTA manufacturers: Yangnong, Huangma, Litian, Lankelu, and Xinsu. Each manufacturer only promoted its own products, highlighting advantages of its own grades while avoiding cross-brand horizontal benchmarking: Yangnong only recommended standard electronic-grade TMPTA and evaded discussion of Huangma’s low-color product strengths; Huangma focused on high-activity grades without elaborating on Litian’s low-inhibitor monomer characteristics, with identical conduct from remaining manufacturers. Lacking a domestic raw material database, the customer failed to distinguish industrial vs. electronic grades and standard vs. modified specialized grades. Submitted samples exhibited inconsistent defects including overly fast curing or high-temperature yellowing, leaving the customer unable to lock in suitable grades after half a month of testing. The customer commissioned HiSiaddi to conduct objective full-brand evaluation and material selection.
Drawing on UV monomer application expertise, HiSiaddi compiled full mainstream grades from five leading domestic mid-to-high-end brands (Yangnong, Zhejiang Huangma, Jiangsu Litian, Lankelu, Xinsu) to objectively sort out the strengths and weaknesses of each brand without bias toward any manufacturer:
1. Yangnong Chemical: Domestic capacity leader with stable purity for standard TMPTA and outstanding cost-performance; limited ultra-high-purity customized electronic grades with narrow adjustability for polymerization inhibitors, suitable for general industrial coatings.
2. Zhejiang Huangma: Specializes in fine distillation technology; high-end grades feature APHA color ≤10 and ultra-low residual alcohols with industry-leading yellowing resistance; slightly higher viscosity and long lead times for large-volume bulk orders, ideal for optical coatings and high-end inks.
3. Jiangsu Litian: Specializes in export-grade monomers with flexible MEHQ inhibitor dosage fine-tuning, split into low-inhibitor LED-specific grades and standard UV grades with excellent formulation compatibility; average color for base grades and premium pricing for ultra-high-purity variants.
4. Lankelu: Diverse segmented grades including universal L-61026 and modified low-viscosity specifications with good auxiliary agent compatibility and flexible small-batch sample provision; mass production supply stability inferior to major refining conglomerates.
5. Xinsu Chemical: Focuses on cost-effective high-purity monomers meeting mid-to-high-end threshold indicators with clear cost advantages; insufficient technical reserves for high-end modified grades, primarily applied to ordinary UV wood coatings.
Combining the customer’s dual product lines of automotive topcoats and optical film coatings, we eliminated poorly compatible Lankelu and Xinsu and selected two mid-to-high-end brands (Huangma and Litian) with three segmented grades:
1. Huangma high-end distilled electronic-grade TMPTA: Dedicated to optical film coatings with low color and low residuals to meet customer aging resistance and high light transmittance requirements;
2. Litian standard export-grade TMPTA: For mass-production automotive plastic topcoats with moderate viscosity and stable curing speed, compatible with existing coating formulations;
3. Litian low-inhibitor modified TMPTA: Matched to the customer’s upcoming low-temperature LED curing new project with precisely controlled inhibitor dosage to resolve incomplete curing under low-temperature conditions.
HiSiaddi coordinated simultaneous sample delivery from both manufacturers, and the customer’s laboratory conducted full-item testing across coating systems for adhesion, yellowing resistance, UV curing speed, and heavy metal residuals, with performance fully comparable to original imported raw materials. The samples passed third-party factory admission testing mandated by Volvo. The customer finalized an annual 260-ton framework order split across the three grades with monthly phased delivery. Comprehensive procurement costs decreased by 27% versus original imported supplies, and proximity domestic warehousing shortened delivery lead times by 45 days. Later, the customer launched a water-based UV coating production line and continued to source modified TMPTA from the two brands via HiSiaddi, deepening long-term cooperation.
Restricted by operational orientations, domestic TMPTA manufacturers only promote their proprietary products and lack objective cross-brand evaluation. Overseas mid-to-high-end customers unfamiliar with segmented domestic grade differences face high risks of raw material mismatch during independent supplier selection.
