Purchaser: FINN-POLY OY, located in Helsinki, Finland. Specializing in modified PE weather-resistant shed films, PP garden railings, and RV exterior modified plastics for cold alpine environments with 30 years of industry experience, it supplies major local agricultural and animal husbandry groups and leading Nordic RV manufacturers in Finland. Its products comply with EU REACH, ISO 4892 xenon lamp weathering standards, Annex XVII heavy metal control under REACH, and pesticide acid-alkali corrosion testing standards. Its total annual procurement volume of nickel-based UV 1084 light stabilizer is 48 tons, with long-term sourcing of original Cytec UV 1084 from the US.
Amid rising overseas chemical raw material prices and extended Cytec delivery lead times of up to 95 days, the client launched a domestic UV 1084 alternative model selection project. Unfamiliar with the domestic additive industry landscape, brand grading, and grade differences, the client independently contacted five major domestic UV 1084 manufacturers: Rianlon, Beijing Tiangang, Suzhou Liansheng, Shandong Ruida, and Shandong Xingzhilian, requesting samples and quotations. All manufacturer sales teams operated in compliance without maliciously smearing competitors, yet only introduced advantages of their own products while avoiding discussion of competing grades’ strengths and applicable scenarios, pushing their full product lines exclusively.
The client received 8 samples from five manufacturers with inconsistent powder color, free nickel content, acid resistance, and particle size indicators. Independent lab trials resulted in different defects including green discoloration of profiles, premature aging failure after pesticide exposure, and particle black spots. Over 20,000 EUR was invested in sampling without identifying products matching its cold climate + pesticide-resistant working conditions, stalling model selection for nearly 35 days. Upon recommendation by the Finnish Plastics Industry Association, the client entrusted HiSiaddi to conduct third-party neutral cross-brand lab testing, grade classification, and accurate model selection recommendations.
HiSiaddi set up a team of additive physical and chemical engineers and polyolefin application engineers. Under unified test conditions, parallel testing of five key indicators (color, free nickel content, D50 particle size, 5% dilute acid stability, 275°C thermal stability) was conducted on flagship products from all five brands. Products were categorized into three tiers: high-end weather-resistant refined grade, generic agricultural grade, low-end commodity grade, with objective sorting of each brand’s product characteristics:
Two flagship grades: R-1084 Generic Agricultural Film Grade, R-1084-HiSiaddi Cold Climate Acid-Resistant Refined Grade ✅ Advantages: The HiSiaddi refined grade adopts multi-stage recrystallization purification with free nickel ≤12ppm, pale gray powder, outstanding acid-alkali and high-temperature resistance, complete REACH registration documents, and stable batch consistency for large-volume supply, suitable for Nordic cold outdoor products. Disadvantages: Generic grade contains high free nickel with greenish powder, only applicable to low-end ordinary shed films; high-end grades carry higher unit purchase prices.
Two flagship grades: TG-1084 National Standard Generic Grade, TG-1084-F Ultrafine Modified Grade ✅ Advantages: Grade F undergoes jet milling to achieve D50≤3.7μm with excellent dispersion avoiding black spots, remarkable synergistic effects when compounded with HALS hindered amines, and flexible small-batch production scheduling. Disadvantages: Generic grade exhibits weak acid resistance and readily fails after long-term pesticide immersion, incompatible with the client’s functional agricultural film requirements.
Single product LS-1084 Industrial Generic Grade ✅ Advantages: Massive production capacity, abundant off-the-shelf stock, high cost performance, widely used in ordinary domestic agricultural films. Disadvantages: No dedicated high-end refined production lines, excessive free nickel, dark green powder, non-compliant chemical corrosion resistance.
Single product RD-1084 Ordinary Mass-Produced Grade ✅ Advantages: Low unit price, flexible supply schedules. Disadvantages: Simple purification process with excessive impurities and poor thermal resistance, only suitable for low-end filled modified plastics.
Two flagship grades: XZL-1084 Conventional Grade, XZL-1084HP Refined Grade Advantages: Grade HP delivers acceptable weather resistance performance. Disadvantages: Imperfect ultrafine milling supporting equipment, long production lead times for large orders, incomplete EU compliance documentation.
The client operates two major product lines: ① High-end functional PE shed films for cold climate pesticide resistance (stringent acid-alkali resistance, low nickel, ultrafine powder, long-term weather resistance); ② Conventional PP outdoor garden railings (cost control, basic weather resistance). HiSiaddi eliminated Liansheng and Ruida, and temporarily suspended primary procurement of Xingzhilian due to insufficient compliance and mass production stability. Ultimately, two mid-to-high-end brands (Rianlon and Beijing Tiangang) with three segmented grades were selected.
1. R-1084-HiSiaddi Cold Climate Acid-Resistant Refined Grade (Primary Grade, accounting for 78% of annual procurement): Exclusively for high-end pesticide-resistant shed films, perfectly matching stringent indicators of low-temperature outdoor and acid-alkali resistance, with performance equivalent to original Cytec products.
2. Screened premium batches of R-1084 Generic Grade (Backup Grade): Selected premium batches of raw materials for production of ordinary PP railings to control raw material procurement costs.
TG-1084-F Ultrafine Modified Grade: Secondary supplier backup stock for the client’s newly launched transparent modified PE new products. Its ultrafine particle size eliminates black spots, serving as an alternative raw material to diversify supply chain risks.
1. Laboratory sample evaluation: HiSiaddi coordinated delivery of 5kg samples from both manufacturers. The client conducted test panel production at the original 0.32% additive dosage: Rianlon HiSiaddi grade produced shed films free of green discoloration and black spots with 93.6% light stabilization retention after 72 hours of dilute acid immersion; Tiangang Grade F delivered excellent dispersion for transparent profiles, both meeting internal control standards.
2. Workshop pilot production: 500kg pilot batches from each brand underwent continuous 12-hour extrusion on production lines with no die head fouling or bloom precipitation, and 3000-hour xenon lamp weathering data passed acceptance.
3. First formal order signing: The client placed an initial order of 20 tons: 14.5 tons Rianlon R-1084-HiSiaddi, 3.5 tons screened Rianlon generic grade, 2 tons Tiangang TG-1084-F. HiSiaddi coordinated customized packaging, GHS labels, commodity inspection and customs clearance, and full-container sea freight to Helsinki Port, Finland.
1. Cost optimization: Comprehensive procurement cost of the three domestic grades decreased by 31% compared with original Cytec products, and delivery lead time was shortened from 95 days to under 30 days, effectively reducing the client’s raw material inventory pressure.
2. Annual framework agreement signed: After acceptance of the initial order, a full-year procurement contract for 48 tons was finalized, scheduled for phased delivery in five quarterly batches.
3. Continuous brand model selection for new products: The client later launched a cold-resistant EVA film project and continued to entrust HiSiaddi to screen modified UV 1084 grades from the two brands.
4. Factory market expansion: Certified via this high-end Finnish client project, Rianlon and Tiangang developed two additional mid-to-high-end plastic end clients in Sweden and Norway via HiSiaddi.
1. Domestic UV 1084 products fall into three tiers: high-end refined grade, generic agricultural grade, low-end commodity grade. Performance gaps between different grades under the same brand are substantial. Driven by sales targets, all manufacturers only promote their own products while avoiding discussion of competing grades’ advantages. Mid-to-high-end overseas clients lack data on the domestic additive industry, and independent model selection easily leads to wrong grade choices, resulting in sampling losses and mass production hidden dangers.
2. Core value of HiSiaddi: Conduct third-party neutral cross-brand parameter testing and benchmarking, carry out accurate grade classification and selection matching the client’s end-use environment, break information barriers between brands, and avoid economic losses caused by client model selection errors.
3. Mid-to-high-end Nordic outdoor plastic clients prioritize matching product grades over unit price during model selection. Neutral multi-brand testing plus on-site sample delivery services constitute the core competitiveness distinguishing technology-driven foreign trade service providers from single-manufacturer agents.
