Purchaser: NutraMax Premium Biotech Group, Vancouver, Canada. A leading domestic mid-to-high-end enterprise for dietary supplements and medical aesthetic raw materials in Canada, its products comply with Canada’s HPB Health Bureau raw material access standards and cGMP production specifications. It previously purchased pharmaceutical-grade glutathione from Japan’s Kyowa Hakko on a long-term basis with an annual stable procurement volume of 42 tons. In 2025, it launched domestic supply chain localization replacement in China, planning two separate batches of procurement: pharmaceutical crystal grade (raw materials for soft capsules) and high-purity medical aesthetic grade (raw materials for essence stock solutions).
The client previously independently contacted five top domestic glutathione manufacturers: Shandong Jincheng Bio, Zhejiang Yongtai Technology, Jiangsu Jiangshan Pharmaceutical, Shandong Luwei Bio, Shanghai Tianwei Biochemical, encountering obvious sourcing barriers:
1. Each manufacturer only promotes its own grades and avoids discussing competitors’ strengths: Sales staff of every manufacturer only introduce their own product parameters, production capacity and prices, without objective benchmarking against peers or explanation of applicable scenarios for each brand. Although they do not maliciously belittle competitors, they deliberately avoid highlighting competitors’ advantages, preventing clients from horizontal comparison.
2. Confusing grade naming with mixed national standards and enterprise standards: Products all labeled "99% glutathione" feature vastly different internal control indicators (oxidized impurities, particle size, heavy metal limits) across manufacturers. Clients fail to understand domestic grading rules and cannot distinguish food grade, pharmaceutical grade and high-purity medical aesthetic grade.
3. Wide quotation range (880–1550 RMB/kg), making clients unable to judge whether price premiums match product quality. Blind sample testing incurs high costs; the client previously self-funded samples from five manufacturers, three of which failed formula compatibility testing, with sample testing losses exceeding 6,000 Canadian dollars, halting the sourcing process. The client fully entrusted foreign trade firm HiSiaddi to conduct neutral evaluation of all brands, grade screening and precise sourcing.
1. Raw materials for oral soft capsules: HPLC purity ≥99.5%, GSSG oxidized impurities ≤0.25%, heavy metals complying with Canada HPB limits.
2. Raw materials for hospital-line essences: HPLC purity ≥99.7%, oxidized impurities ≤0.13%, regular crystals with low moisture absorption, no precipitation after compounding with VC.
3. Able to issue English COAs, meet Canada import filing documentation requirements, and support high-end 25kg vacuum aluminum foil packaging.
Three mainstream grades: ① GSH-M1 Pharmaceutical Crystal Grade: 99.6% purity, 0.20% oxidized impurities, regular 90-mesh crystals, mainly for oral pharmaceuticals and high-end health products. ② GSH-M2 Ultra-Pure Medical Aesthetic Grade: 99.75% purity, GSSG ≤0.11%, nitrogen-protected recrystallization, exclusively for injections and high-end essences. ③ GSH-F General Food Grade: 99.0% purity, 0.45% impurities, bulk powder, low-cost raw materials for food and beverages.
· Advantages: Enzymatic synthesis with top-tier impurity control, FDA and GMP certifications, mature export experience to pharmaceutical enterprises in Japan, South Korea, Europe and America, strong batch stability.
· Disadvantages: Higher unit price for general food grades, slightly high minimum order threshold for small-batch sample testing.
Mainstream grade: GSH-P Injectable Pharmaceutical Grade, 99.8% purity, sterile refining, mainly for raw materials of infusion and injectable preparations.
· Advantages: Complete sterile production lines, full-item impurities aligned with European and American pharmacopoeias, top-tier heavy metal control in the industry.
· Disadvantages: Products focus on customized injections with tight capacity for regular crystal grades, poor adaptability to daily chemical essences, highest unit price across all brands, unsuitable for mass production of dietary supplements.
Mainstream grade: GSH-C Special Health Grade, 99.3% purity, mass production via fermentation, mainly for functional health products and mid-to-low-end skincare products.
· Advantages: Low mass production cost, outstanding cost performance, abundant bulk spot supply.
· Disadvantages: Oxidized impurities generally range from 0.38% to 0.50%, high proportion of fine powder prone to moisture absorption, failing to meet strict limits for Canada hospital-line essences.
Mainstream grade: GSH-L Food Grade 99.0%, full-spec bulk powder.
· Advantages: Huge production capacity, abundant spot supply, lowest price.
· Disadvantages: No pharmaceutical refining production lines, large fluctuation in impurities, unable to effectively meet strict indicators for the client’s high-end soft capsules and hospital-line stock solutions, only suitable for low-end food additives.
Mainstream grade: GSH-S Daily Chemical Powder Grade, 99.1% purity.
· Advantages: Good water solubility, suitable for low-cost emulsion and lotion formulas.
· Disadvantages: Raw materials feature weak oxidation resistance, prone to oxidation yellowing during storage, failing to meet Canada import raw material compliance requirements.
Combining the client’s dual product lines of high-end oral soft capsules and hospital-line essences, three brands (Luwei, Jiangshan, Tianwei) with low-end positioning or insufficient adaptability were eliminated. Two mid-to-high-end brands (Shandong Jincheng Bio, Zhejiang Yongtai Technology) and three precise grades were finalized:
1. Jincheng GSH-M1 (Special for Oral Soft Capsules): Matches the client’s liver-protecting soft capsule formula with 99.6% purity and 0.20% oxidized impurities, fully meeting Canada HPB limits, with better cost performance than Yongtai. Used for 30 tons of soft capsule raw materials in the annual 42-ton order.
2. Jincheng GSH-M2 (Main Grade for Hospital-Line Essences): 99.75% ultra-high purity, low oxidation, excellent crystal fluidity, no precipitation after compounding with L-ascorbic acid, suitable for production of 20 tons of essence stock solutions.
3. Yongtai GSH-P (Backup for High-End Custom Lines): Ultra-high-purity injectable raw materials for small-batch luxury customized medical aesthetic lines of the client (annual procurement of 2 tons), applied to limited-edition premium brand products.
1. HiSiaddi coordinated free 5kg sample delivery from both manufacturers, eliminating the client’s separate coordination and self-funded sample testing costs.
2. Assist both manufacturers in issuing bilingual COAs and MSDS complying with Canadian specifications, supplementing raw material traceability documents required for HPB import filing.
3. Standardize double-layer light-proof vacuum aluminum foil packaging uniformly to adapt to moisture and oxidation prevention during ocean shipping.
1. For the Canadian client: Three grades were shipped to Vancouver Port in three batches with zero compliance issues during customs clearance. No raw material standard exceedance occurred during soft capsule mass production; hospital-line essences remained free of yellowing and compatibility precipitation after 24 months at room temperature. New products successfully passed Canada HPB sampling inspection and entered chain high-end pharmacies and chain medical aesthetic institutions across Canada. Compared with original raw materials imported from Japan’s Kyowa Hakko, the comprehensive procurement cost decreased by 31%. The client renewed a 48-ton annual procurement order the following year and added customized sourcing demand for acetylated glutathione.
2. For upstream manufacturers: Jincheng and Yongtai improved compliance filings for the Canadian market relying on this benchmark North American order, followed by successive sample testing orders from dietary groups in Australia and New Zealand.
3. For HiSiaddi Foreign Trade: A neutral glutathione full-brand sourcing database was established, forming a standardized sourcing service model covering "grading benchmarking - grade screening - sample coordination - compliance support", enabling subsequent acceptance of sourcing businesses for mid-to-high-end raw materials such as alpha arbutin and carnosine.
Driven by sales targets, most domestic glutathione manufacturers only promote their own products without objective cross-brand evaluation. Restricted by domestic food and drug regulations and terminal formula requirements, overseas mid-to-high-end clients face information gaps in raw material grading and grade recognition. Leveraging full industrial chain information and breaking free from single-manufacturer interest binding, HiSiaddi horizontally disassembled the pros and cons of multiple brands from a neutral perspective, precisely narrowed down brands and grades based on clients’ terminal products, helping clients avoid sourcing pitfalls and reduce sample testing losses, and successfully delivered procurement of imported high-end domestic raw materials.
