Below is our case of delivering a customized octyldodecanol solution. If you require customized product services, please contact HiSiaddi customer service.
Headquartered in Le Marais, Paris, French beauty group Soficor is a leading mid-to-high-end enterprise specializing in light luxury organic skincare, medical repair ointments and high-end colorant substrate R&D and production. Founded in 1996, it owns three independent skincare laboratories, with terminal partnerships covering French pharmacy chains, European organic supermarkets and Swiss professional skincare brands. Its full product line including repair creams, sensitive skin serums and matte foundations complies with the EU Clean Beauty standards. The group previously sourced octyldodecanol (Guerbet alcohol, CAS: 5333-42-6) imported directly from Sasol Germany on a long-term basis, with an annual stable purchase volume of 325 tons split into three grades: 210 tons of organic skincare grade, 75 tons of medical ointment grade and 40 tons of colorant dispersion grade.
All its products comply with EU Cosmetics Regulation EC1223, REACH, EU Regulation 10/2011 on food contact materials and ECOCERT natural organic raw material traceability standards. Unlike low-end trading clients who only focus on purchasing prices without strict formula customization and raw material traceability requirements, Soficor never purchases standard national standard mass-produced goods. It adopts a cooperation model featuring exclusive index customization, plant-based raw material traceability and multi-round formula trial production. The physicochemical parameters of raw materials directly determine the texture, stability and sensitization rate of finished skincare products, leaving minimal room for errors in customization.
In the second half of 2025, European domestic chemical raw material production capacity shrank, Sasol’s original delivery cycle extended to over 90 days, and imported raw materials saw three consecutive price hikes exceeding 32%. The R&D department of Soficor launched a domestic raw material customized substitution plan. Recommended by the French Fine Chemicals Association, the group selected HiSiaddi as its exclusive customized procurement service provider, putting forward exclusive customized octyldodecanol requirements including synthesis from plant oil sources, targeted fine-tuning of three physicochemical indicators, no mineral oil adulteration and full-chain raw material traceability. It first placed a small trial order of 35 tons, agreeing to sign an annual long-term contract for 325 tons once trial mass production meets standards.
The client previously contacted 3 regular domestic octyldodecanol manufacturers independently, yet all suppliers could only deliver standard national standard mass-produced products and failed to match personalized customized parameters required by the client. Factories stated that their fixed synthesis processes and raw material routes could not be modified, bringing the customization project to a standstill. The client fully entrusted HiSiaddi to coordinate upstream manufacturers, formula engineers and third-party testing institutions to implement full-process customized development.
Mandatory customized technical indicators specified by the client (benchmarking Sasol’s premium plant-based grade, stricter than domestic general national standards):
1. Raw material source: Synthesized from 100% non-GMO rapeseed oil and palm kernel oil-derived plant fatty alcohols; mineral alcohol blending is strictly prohibited. Traceability documents for upstream oil farms shall be provided to pass ECOCERT organic raw material audits.
2. Customized physicochemical parameters: Chromaticity APHA ≤8 (general national standard ≤20); acid value ≤0.03mgKOH/g (national standard ≤0.1); hydroxyl value 186~189mgKOH/g (national standard range 175~190); freezing point ≤-28℃ (national standard ≤-20℃); GC gas phase purity ≥99.4% (national standard ≥97); single heavy metal ≤3ppb; no trace aromatic hydrocarbon MOAH detected.
3. Application requirements: The formula remains non-greasy and refreshing after adding the raw material; serums do not delaminate under -15℃ low-temperature storage; medical ointments deliver stable penetration without irritating sensitive skin; color pigments disperse evenly without particle precipitation.
After collecting the client’s full English customized technical specifications and finished formula data, HiSiaddi collaborated with a leading domestic octyldodecanol production base to conduct process research, sorting out three major customization barriers that are common shortcomings of domestic standard production lines:
Most domestic octyldodecanol manufacturers adopt a mixture of mineral-derived alcohol and plant alcohol as feedstock to cut production costs, with fixed feeding systems on production lines. Separating an independent production line dedicated to pure plant raw materials requires equipment technical transformation and reconstruction of the raw material supply chain. Meanwhile, the client demands traceability of upstream vegetable oil origins, yet most domestic factories source oil sporadically without long-term supply ledgers for designated farms, failing to meet EU organic raw material traceability audit standards. Many manufacturers rejected the customization order directly due to high transformation costs and long lead times.
Octyldodecanol is synthesized via the Guerbet condensation process. Domestic mass production adopts standardized parameters with acid values generally controlled at 0.06~0.09mgKOH/g and hydroxyl values fluctuating widely from 176 to 189mgKOH/g, making it difficult to stably lock hydroxyl values within the narrow range of 186~189mgKOH/g. Chromaticity affected by by-product impurities usually ranges from 12 to 18 APHA; reducing it below 8 requires optimizing the catalytic system and adding two-stage molecular distillation purification processes. The original rectification section reserves no space for additional purification, and adjusting the process would disrupt existing mass production schedules. Small and medium-sized factories lack sufficient technical reserves to modify synthesis formulas.
Conventional raw material manufacturers only produce finished goods per national standards without cosmetic formula laboratories. They lack understanding of the cream, serum and ointment formula systems used by the client. After raw material delivery, the client encountered texture greasiness, low-temperature delamination and uneven pigment dispersion during trial formulation, yet manufacturers could only ask the client to adjust finished formulas instead of fine-tuning raw material parameters to optimize application performance – violating Soficor’s customization requirement of "adapting raw materials to existing mature formulas without any modification to finished products".
With multiple obstacles, the three previously contacted manufacturers all withdrew from the customization cooperation. The client faced project suspension and had to continue purchasing expensive imported European raw materials. HiSiaddi formed a special team consisting of chemical process engineers, cosmetic formulators and traceability compliance specialists to break down challenges in phases and implement customized transformation step by step.
HiSiaddi screened two leading domestic vegetable oil refining enterprises and signed exclusive supply agreements for non-GMO rapeseed oil and palm kernel oil, fixing designated oil harvesting farms and processing plants. Batch-by-batch oil origin certificates, quality inspection reports and import/export customs documents are retained to build a bilingual Chinese-English full-chain traceability ledger covering oil planting → refining → fatty alcohol intermediates → finished octyldodecanol. We coordinated with our cooperative manufacturer to allocate an independent 120-ton small dedicated synthesis line completely isolated from mineral alcohol feeding pipelines, realizing exclusive 100% plant-based raw material feeding and eliminating mineral oil adulteration risks from the source, fully meeting EU ECOCERT organic raw material traceability audit requirements.
1. Synthesis Process: Collaborated with factory R&D teams to replace high-selectivity solid base catalysts, optimize reaction temperatures and holding durations to inhibit by-product generation, reducing free fatty acid content at the source and stably controlling acid values between 0.02~0.028mgKOH/g. Segmented temperature-controlled reactions precisely regulate molecular rearrangement conversion rates, locking hydroxyl values steadily within 186.2~188.7mgKOH/g to resolve wide hydroxyl value fluctuations.
2. Purification Process: Added a secondary vacuum rectification section on the original single-stage molecular distillation setup to remove trace colored impurities and heavy fraction by-products under low temperature, stabilizing product chromaticity at 5~7APHA (surpassing the client’s standard of ≤8). A deep low-temperature devolatilization process further reduces light fraction residues, achieving a measured freezing point of -31℃ (far exceeding the agreed standard of ≤-28℃). GC testing confirmed product purity of 99.52%, with all heavy metals and MOAH aromatic hydrocarbons undetected. All physicochemical indicators fully complied with the client’s customized specifications.
Relying on our in-house cosmetic pilot laboratory, HiSiaddi conducted parallel sample production using customized test materials following Soficor’s original formulas for creams, medical ointments and liquid foundations:
1. Organic repair cream: Samples with 5% addition deliver smooth texture without heavy oil film upon application; no delamination occurs after 90 days at room temperature or 30 days of -15℃ refrigeration, solving the low-temperature delamination defect of standard raw materials.
2. Sensitive skin medical ointment: The raw material delivers stable penetration rates with zero sensitization in human patch tests, complying with French pharmacy external raw material safety standards.
3. Matte liquid foundation: Color pigments disperse evenly without particle agglomeration after high-speed grinding, delivering smooth makeup application without balling up, perfectly matching the client’s original formula system without any adjustments to finished product parameters.
We coordinated with SGS laboratories to conduct full testing per EU EC1223, REACH and EU 10/2011 standards, issuing trilingual Chinese-English-French COA quality inspection reports, DoC declarations of conformity, SVHC screening reports and organic raw material traceability certificates. All documents meet the audit standards of French customs and the client’s quality control warehouse entry requirements.
The 35 tons of customized octyldodecanol were produced in batches per customized standards: 22 tons of skincare grade, 9 tons of medical grade and 4 tons of colorant grade. Each batch comes with corresponding batch traceability documents and complete compliance materials, filled in brand-new food-grade 170kg IBC plastic drums. Drum labels follow French CLP regulations with bilingual French-English markings including CAS number, raw material traceability code and storage & transportation specifications. Goods were shipped in two batches from Shanghai Port to Le Havre Port in France, passing customs inspection smoothly with zero additional verification upon presentation of full traceability and compliance documents.
Three production lines of Soficor Group conducted continuous mass production testing for 22 consecutive days, with stable yield rates above 98.5% for all three product categories. Finished skincare products sent to French cosmetic safety laboratories passed all tests for sensitization, stability and component residue, officially confirming that the customized raw material fully replaces Sasol’s imported grade from Germany.
Soficor terminated part of its annual procurement contract with Sasol and signed an exclusive annual 325-ton customization long-term agreement with HiSiaddi, stipulating six batch deliveries per year on demand, fixed dedicated production lines, designated oil supply chains and customized indicator standards. HiSiaddi provides dynamic raw material optimization services for the client, prioritizing small trial fine-tuning when the client adjusts raw material indicators for new product R&D and delivering continuous customized raw material iteration support. Thanks to domestic customized production, the client’s comprehensive annual raw material procurement cost dropped by 30.7%, and delivery cycles were shortened from 90 days to 38 days, completely eliminating risks of European raw material price hikes and supply shortages.

Industry Customization Pain Point: Domestic Raw Material Manufacturers Prioritize Standard Mass Production Over Customized R&D Most domestic octyldodecanol manufacturers focus production capacity on standard national standard mass-produced goods, with standardized finalized production equipment, raw material procurement and catalytic processes. They are unwilling to invest in production line technical transformation and formula R&D to control production costs. Low-end foreign trade clients only purchase standard off-the-shelf goods without personalized parameter and traceability requirements, so manufacturers do not need to provide customized supporting services. In contrast, mid-to-high-end European beauty and pharmacy clients rely on exclusive mature skincare formulas that demand precise customized raw material indicators and controllable plant-based sources. Standard mass-produced raw materials fail to match high-end formula requirements, and individual manufacturers struggle to implement full-chain customized delivery independently due to technical, cost and supply chain constraints.

Unique Customization Needs of Mid-to-High-End Clients: Trinity Demand of Indicator Customization + Raw Material Traceability + Formula Adaptation Represented by French group Soficor, European mid-to-high-end brands prioritize three integrated deliverables beyond low purchasing prices: exclusive physicochemical indicator customization, full-chain plant-based traceability and supporting finished formula trial debugging. Raw materials are directly tied to the reputation of high-end finished skincare products and EU market access compliance; customization failures may lead to new product suspension, formula scrapping and brand losses – risks completely absent for low-volume price-focused purchasers.
