The German Laber Group launched a China-based domestic substitution procurement project in 2025. The client previously only used BASF imported grades and had zero knowledge of domestic leading PVP brands, grade performance and certification qualifications. It independently contacted four top domestic PVP manufacturers: NewOpen, Yuang Technology, Henan Pengfei and Sichuan Tianhua. While all manufacturers operated legally and did not slander competitors maliciously, their business models centered on promoting their own products: each manufacturer only elaborated on advantages, production line qualifications and test indicators of its own full product lines, remaining silent on process highlights and matching formulation advantages of competing brands without providing objective horizontal comparisons. Client pain points are as follows:
1. All four manufacturers recommended their flagship K17, K30 and K90 grades. Although labeled identically, wide gaps existed in molecular weight distribution, monomer residues, powder particle size, CEP/DMF certifications and internal impurity control standards; the client could not judge matching suitability solely based on unilateral manufacturer introductions.
2. The client’s three refined end-product formulations (essence solubilization, health tablet bonding, medical beauty wound gel film formation) would suffer severe defects including essence stratification, unqualified tablet disintegration and gel cracking if mismatched grades were selected, so blind bulk orders were too risky.
3. Separate sample testing incurred high costs and long lead times. The client entrusted HiSiaddi with neutral brand evaluation, horizontal benchmarking and precise grade screening.
Drawing on domestic PVP supply chain resources, HiSiaddi compiled bilingual Chinese-English benchmark reports covering qualifications, production processes, flagship grades, applicable scenarios and inherent drawbacks of the four leading manufacturers.
Strengths: Self-sufficient integrated NVP monomer production, benzene-free synthesis process, tight K-value control, industry-leading stability of high-molecular-weight K90 series. Full product lines hold CEP, DMF and FDA associated review certifications; injection-grade and sustained-release pharmaceutical grades are core strengths, with NVP monomer residues controllable below 5ppm, ideal for high-standard sustained-release pharmaceutical formulations. Weaknesses: Higher unit prices for small-batch customization; cost performance of standard daily chemical grades lags behind southern manufacturers. Flagship Grades: Pharmaceutical K17, narrow-distribution pharmaceutical K30, high-viscosity film-forming pharmaceutical K90.
Strengths: Mature dual lines for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, outstanding refining processes for low-molecular K15/K17, uniform powder particle size, low residues and excellent low-temperature solubility, holding EXCiPACT GMP certification, optimal matching for high-end cosmeceutical and essence solubilization formulations, flexible scheduling for small-batch orders. Weaknesses: Limited mass production capacity for customized ultra-high-molecular-weight K120 grades; longer lead times for large-volume orders. Flagship Grades: Refined K17H, pharmaceutical K30, gel-dedicated K90.
Strengths: Outstanding cost advantages in mass production, stable standard national-standard PVP, cost-effective food-grade grades, sufficient production capacity for copovidone VA64. Weaknesses: Few supporting deep refining lines for high-end injection-grade products, limited capacity for narrow-molecular-weight customization; only suitable for general oral tablets and food ingredients. Flagship Grades: National-standard K30, dual-purpose industrial & daily chemical K90.
Strengths: Deep expertise in oral solid formulation excipients, moderately cost-effective tablet-bonding PVP, abundant supporting cases for domestic pharmaceutical factories. Weaknesses: Insufficient reserves of high-purity injection-grade and refined medical beauty-specialized grades; internal control of trace impurities falls behind NewOpen and Yuang.
Client three product demands: ① High-end essence solubilization: low viscosity, no precipitation under low temperature, high solubility → low-molecular refined PVP ② Health tablet wet granulation binder: uniform molecular weight distribution, no negative impact on disintegration → narrow-distribution pharmaceutical K30 ③ Medical beauty wound gel film formation: high viscosity, flexible film formation, low impurities → high-purity pharmaceutical K90
Final Selected Two Mid-to-High-End Brands & Three Commercial Grades:
1. Yuang Technology Youmeixin Refined Series PVP-K17H: Dedicated to essence solubilization, low residues and uniform particle size, matching cold storage stability requirements of the client’s cosmeceutical formulations.
2. NewOpen Oris Pharmaceutical Series Narrow-Distribution PVP-K30: Tablet binder with K-value fluctuation within ±1, dissolution data benchmarking original BASF material, suitable for sustained-release health tablets.
3. NewOpen Oris High-Purity PVP-K90: Film-forming substrate for medical beauty gels with ultra-low aldehyde impurities and crack-free film formation, meeting EU medical beauty raw material access standards.
HiSiaddi truthfully stated the strengths of Henan Pengfei and Sichuan Tianhua grades but clearly confirmed their mismatch with the client’s strict medical beauty and injection-grade internal control standards without forced recommendations.
1. HiSiaddi coordinated delivery of 5kg samples from both brands, complete with COA test reports and CEP qualification documents, air-shipped to Laber R&D laboratories in Germany.
2. After three months of full-formulation stability testing by the client, essences remained layered-free under room and cold storage, tablets met disintegration standards, and gels formed flexible films without cracking. All three raw materials fully replaced original BASF supplies.
3. Total order volume of 9.2 tons split into three specifications: 2.7 tons K17H, 3.9 tons narrow-distribution K30, 2.6 tons high-purity K90, shipped in five consignments from Shanghai Port to Hamburg Port. HiSiaddi provided supporting REACH registration and EU import declaration documents for smooth customs clearance throughout the process.
1. Overall procurement cost of domestic raw materials decreased by 31.5% compared to original BASF imports, with formulation performance matching imported materials. An 11-ton annual framework procurement order was renewed in 2026, with additional procurement requests for PVP-VA64 copovidone.
2. Leveraging HiSiaddi’s brand database, the client built a classification library of domestic PVP suppliers, lifting raw material selection efficiency for new products by 70%.
The two manufacturers successfully entered the high-end European medical beauty & pharmaceutical supply chain. Supported by this benchmark German client case, they later expanded orders from cosmeceutical enterprises in the Netherlands and Austria, achieving a 27% export premium for high-end pharmaceutical grades.
HiSiaddi improved its full cross-brand evaluation database for domestic PVP and standardized a full set of brand selection services: client formulation demand analysis → review of brand advantages & disadvantages → precise grade matching → sample delivery. It later undertook PVP selection commissions from pharmaceutical enterprises across Northern Europe.
1. Industry Pain Points: Domestic PVP manufacturers prioritize selling self-owned production capacity and lack commercial incentives to actively promote advantages of competing brands. High-end overseas pharmaceutical enterprises long rely on imported grades and lack channels for horizontal comparison of domestic raw materials, making them easily misled by single manufacturers to select mismatched grades.
2. Procurement Logic of Mid-to-High-End Clients: Formula compatibility and compliance qualifications rank higher than unit price; clients will not compromise raw material quality for lower costs.
3. Core Value of HiSiaddi: As a neutral third-party foreign trade firm free from brand bias, HiSiaddi objectively sorts out advantages and drawbacks of all brands and reversely matches grades based on end-product formulation requirements, resolving client information asymmetry pain points.
