Purchaser: SWISSNUTRITION Group, located in the food industrial park of Zurich, Switzerland. With 28 years of expertise in producing high-end dietary soft capsules, sugar-free chewable tablets, and natural fruit powder stabilizers, its full production chain complies with EU E1505, FDA 21CFR, REACH, and Swiss SBL food regulations. TEC is used as a plasticizer for soft capsule shells and a flavor fixative carrier for fruit juice essences. The group previously purchased pharmaceutical-grade Citroflex 2 TEC exclusively from Eastman USA, with an annual stable procurement volume of 132 tons.
Faced with rising prices of European and American raw materials and delayed ocean freight, the client planned localized Chinese sourcing. After independent sampling and inquiry with 5 mainstream domestic TEC manufacturers, a common industry challenge emerged: each factory only promoted its own full product grades, refrained from belittling competitors, yet avoided elaborating on competitors’ strengths, weaknesses, and applicable scenarios. All manufacturer sales claimed their products matched the Swiss food formulations. Eight different grade samples were delivered by the five factories with inconsistent physicochemical parameters, certifications, and application focus areas. The client’s laboratory spent one month on testing yet failed to lock a suitable grade: some samples had excessive acid value causing softening and oil seepage of soft capsule shells, while others contained high residual ethanol damaging fruit powder flavors, making them incompatible with the group’s mature formulations. The client entrusted HiSiaddi to conduct neutral brand evaluation and grade screening services.
1. Purity ≥99.80%, APHA color ≤10, acid value ≤0.04 mgKOH/g, moisture ≤0.05%, residual trace ethanol <15 ppm;
2. Full REACH registration, E1505 food additive certification, full SGS heavy metal testing, all SVHC substances undetected;
3. Three dedicated grades for separate scenarios: one for soft capsule shell materials, one for flavor fixation, one for fruit juice emulsification, with separate stock allocation for each application.
HiSiaddi selected five top-tier domestic TEC manufacturers: Shandong Lemon Biochemical, Jiangsu Tianyin Chemical, Anhui BBCA Biochemical, Zhejiang Xinhua Chemical, and Hubei Tuoyuan Fine Chemicals. Enterprise standards, factory test reports, certification documents, and end-user application cases were collected for each brand to objectively sort out strengths and weaknesses, eliminating information bias from one-sided manufacturer sales pitches.
· Core grades: LM-FO general food grade, LM-PH high-purity pharmaceutical grade
· Advantages: Self-sourced raw materials for cost control, exceptional batch consistency, complete dual FDA and EFSA certifications, ample bulk spot inventory. LM-PH reaches purity up to 99.90% with ultra-low free acid, ideal for pharmaceutical and high-end soft capsule applications;
· Disadvantages: General FO grade has higher APHA color (18~25), high minimum order quantity for small-batch flavor customization, unsuitable for small-lot flavor pilot production.
· Core grades: TY-PH pharmacopoeia grade, TY-FD high-purity food grade
· Advantages: Solid acid catalytic process with minimal by-products and mild odor. TY-FD strictly controls ethanol residues below 10 ppm, complete REACH batch registration for the EU, long-term supporting supply for European pharmaceutical manufacturers;
· Disadvantages: Higher selling price, 7–10 day production lead time for bulk orders, limited stock of conventional industrial food grades.
· Core grade: FY-BIO bio-based food grade
· Advantages: 100% bio-based raw materials with green labeling for organic food brands, outstanding cost performance;
· Disadvantages: Median acid value of 0.07 mgKOH/g fails to meet Switzerland’s ultra-low acid access threshold, unsuitable for high-end soft capsule formulations, only applicable to low-end industrial food products.
· Core grade: XH-EX export general food grade
· Advantages: Large production capacity, convenient tank truck delivery, complete basic compliance certifications;
· Disadvantages: Limited production capacity for high-purity pharmaceutical grades, loose internal control standards for trace impurities and heavy metals falling short of high-end EU access requirements, only suitable for general plasticizer applications in plastics.
· Core grades: TU-FD high-purity food grade, TU-ES flavor-specialized grade
· Advantages: Flexible small-order customization. TU-ES features optimized de-ethanol processes and adjusted aroma, delivering faint natural citrus scent ideal for flavor fixation and fruit juice emulsification, with low minimum order quantity (1 ton minimum for production scheduling);
· Disadvantages: Annual ten-thousand-ton bulk production capacity inferior to Shandong Lemon; ultra-large orders require split two-batch scheduling.
Based on the client’s three application scenarios (soft capsule shells, flavor fixation, fruit juice emulsification), Anhui BBCA and Zhejiang Xinhua were eliminated for failing to meet parameter thresholds. Two mid-to-high-end manufacturers were finalized: Shandong Lemon Biochemical and Hubei Tuoyuan Fine Chemicals, covering three dedicated grades in total:
Application: Plasticizer for soft capsule shells (annual consumption 78 tons) Product indicators: Purity 99.89%, acid value 0.032 mgKOH/g, ethanol residue 12 ppm, complete FDA and REACH certifications. Excellent batch consistency matches continuous production lines of Swiss soft capsules, eliminating oil seepage and softening of capsule shells.
1. TU-ES Flavor-specialized Grade TEC (annual consumption 32 tons, flavor fixative carrier): Optimized de-ethanol process minimizes pungent odor, compatible with natural essential oils without stratification and delivers stable fragrance retention, perfectly matching the group’s high-end dietary flavor formulations;
2. TU-FD High-purity Food Grade TEC (annual consumption 22 tons, fruit juice & sugar-free beverage emulsification): Ultra-low free acid with superior low-temperature emulsification stability, preventing fruit juice stratification and sour taste during storage, compliant with EU E1505 food additive specifications.
HiSiaddi coordinated delivery of 5 kg samples from both manufacturers. Swiss laboratories conducted full testing across three formulation categories: LM-PH for soft capsules showed no oil seepage after 30-day accelerated storage, with disintegration performance equivalent to original Eastman products; TU-ES and TU-FD were tested in flavor and fruit juice formulations respectively, passing all flavor and stability requirements with physicochemical indicators exceeding client access thresholds.
Initial trial orders split into three batches: 10 tons LM-PH, 5 tons TU-ES, 3 tons TU-FD, packed in 200 kg pharmaceutical-grade iron drums plus 5 kg laboratory small drums. French-English bilingual COA, SDS, and REACH filing documents were attached for smooth Swiss customs clearance with zero inspection, and full-load production without any quality defects.
Monthly delivery split: 6.5 tons LM-PH, 2.7 tons TU-ES, 1.8 tons TU-FD per month. Comprehensive procurement costs dropped by 29.5% compared to original Eastman USA raw materials, and delivery cycle shortened from 65 days to 26 days.
1. Exclusive grade filing: HiSiaddi assisted in filing two Tuoyuan grades and one Lemon grade separately with Swiss food authorities as fixed approved Chinese raw material grades for SWISSNUTRITION Group;
2. Continuous grade selection for new products: When the client launched an organic infant complementary food product line, HiSiaddi leveraged the five-brand database to rapidly screen modified bio-based TEC and complete grade selection within one week;
3. Dynamic regular brand archive: HiSiaddi maintains a dynamic archive of top domestic TEC manufacturers for the client, updating factory production capacity, grade iterations, and certification changes in real time to eliminate repeated research costs for future new product procurement.
1. Industry Pain Points: Domestic TEC manufacturers focus sales on promoting their own products. Constrained by sales performance targets, they do not voluntarily disclose competitors’ strengths and applicable scenarios objectively. Overseas mid-to-high-end clients lack familiarity with grade classification of Chinese brands and risk selecting unsuitable grades guided by single manufacturers, leading to formulation scrap;
2. Core Value of HiSiaddi: As a neutral third party conducting horizontal benchmarking across top full-industry brands, free from single manufacturer profit restraints, HiSiaddi accurately matches grades to end-user formulation scenarios and resolves information asymmetry pain points for clients;
3. Sourcing Logic of High-end Clients: Mid-to-high-end European and American food buyers do not only prioritize unit price. Neutral objective brand selection services, scenario-specific accurate grade matching, and full-chain compliance supporting services are key prerequisites for securing large annual long-term orders.
