    Case: HiSiaddi Neutral Selection Service Assists a High-End Cable Group in Finland to Select Domestic A172 Silane, Breaking Barriers of One-Sided Manufacturer Promotion to Complete Procurement

    I. Customer Background & Procurement Pain Points

    NordCable Oy in Finland is a leading manufacturer of mid-to-high-end special cables in Northern Europe, specializing in offshore wind weather-resistant cables and shipboard low-smoke zero-halogen control cables. Its products supply Northern European offshore wind power groups and Finland’s national defense military supply chains, with raw materials complying with EU REACH and IEC 60502 cable standards. It has long purchased original US Momentive A172 silane as fixed sourcing with an annual demand of 196 tons.

    Affected by production cuts at European and American chemical plants and surging ocean freight costs, the customer launched a localization substitution research project to screen mid-to-high-end domestic A172 for sample mass production.

    In the early stage, the customer independently contacted 5 major domestic silane manufacturers: Nanjing Nengde, Anhui Guibao, Wuhan Linsheng, Changzhou Kangyide and Guangzhou Shanghe, requesting samples and quotations one by one, but fell into a selection deadlock. All manufacturers operate in compliance with regulations and do not maliciously belittle competitors, yet all only focus on promoting the advantages of their own products, deliberately avoiding competitor product characteristics, applicable scenarios and shortcomings, only conducting one-sided promotion of their own grades. The customer has in-depth expertise in cable formulas but lacks familiarity with process differences of domestic silanes, unable to horizontally benchmark parameters, purity, formula compatibility and storage stability of the 5 major brands, or distinguish general industrial grades from high-end refined grades. Blind sample testing consumed 2 months without qualified samples, with continuous rising testing costs at R&D laboratories. The customer then entrusted HiSiaddi to conduct neutral full-brand evaluation, horizontal model comparison and grade screening special services.

    II. HiSiaddi Systematically Sorts Out 5 Major Domestic Brands & Mainstream A172 Grades, Objectively Analyzes Advantages & Disadvantages

    Relying on a team of organosilicon technical engineers, HiSiaddi conducted on-site verification of production line configurations, quality inspection standards and rectification processes of manufacturers, collected COA quality inspection certificates and TDS technical data sheets of each brand, and objectively analyzed the main grades of the 5 major manufacturers from five dimensions: purity, free alcohol content, impurity control, applicable formulas, storage stability and price range.

    1. Nanjing Nengde New Materials (established domestic fine silane enterprise) Main grades: SCA-V71C (high-end refined A172), general industrial A172

    · Advantages: Adopts two-stage high-vacuum rectification process. SCA-V71C has main component content ≥99.0% and free residual alcohol ≤0.28%, with low impurities suitable for high-filler aluminum hydroxide zero-halogen cables, with physical properties matching original Momentive products. It has supported European cable manufacturers for over a decade, with products passing bulk REACH registration and adapting to low-temperature storage conditions down to -40°C in Northern Europe.

    · Disadvantages: Premium pricing for high-end refined grades with high minimum order thresholds for small-batch samples; ordinary industrial grades have fewer rectification stages with high free alcohol content, only suitable for low-end general rubber and plastics.

    1. Anhui Guibao (wholly-owned subsidiary of listed enterprise with large high-tech silane production capacity) Main grades: SB-172 high-purity grade, SB-172 conventional industrial grade

    · Advantages: Self-sufficient raw material supply with electronic-grade monomer feeding. High-purity grades have Hazen color ≤15, total impurities of heavy metals and chloride ions ≤4.5ppm and excellent hydrolysis resistance, suitable for photovoltaic cables and electronic insulation materials. Large-scale mass production ensures stable delivery for bulk orders.

    · Disadvantages: Limited spot inventory of high-purity grades with 7~10 days production lead time; conventional grades contain high by-product low-poly silane, prone to poor filler dispersion in high-filler formulas.

    1. Wuhan Linsheng Chemical (central China specialized fine silane manufacturer) Main grades: LS-172 refined grade, LS-172 national standard general grade

    · Advantages: Deep pre-treatment of methoxyethoxy raw materials. Refined grades show good low-temperature tolerance without crystallization at -38°C, suitable for cables operating in frigid Northern European environments, with flexible production scheduling for small-and-medium batch orders.

    · Disadvantages: Limited annual output of high-end refined grades, weak production capacity guarantee for ultra-large tonnage long-term agreements; general grades have effective component content of 94%~95%, only suitable for ordinary filled PE materials.

    1. Changzhou Kangyide New Materials (modified silane R&D enterprise) Main grades: KYD-A172A special modified grade, KYD-A172 base grade

    · Advantages: KYD-A172A undergoes molecular fine-tuning with outstanding inorganic filler coating efficiency and high activation performance for aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, showing obvious advantages in formulas with filler addition exceeding 200 parts.

    · Disadvantages: Slightly higher viscosity of modified grades than standard A172, easily causing unstable extrusion output without minor adjustment of the customer’s original extrusion process; fewer standardized general grades available.

    1. Guangzhou Shanghe Chemical (large-scale silane manufacturer in South China) Main grades: ZQ-172 premium grade, ZQ-172 economical grade

    · Advantages: Complete warehousing facilities in South China with fast spot delivery and outstanding cost performance of economical grades, widely used in low-end domestic rubber and plastic applications.

    · Disadvantages: Premium grades only adopt single-stage rectification with free alcohol content generally ranging from 0.9% to 1.3% and high small-molecule residues. Prone to oil precipitation on insulation layers under high temperature when applied to high-end wind power cables, failing to meet the customer’s strict internal control indicators.

    III. Accurate Selection of 2 Mid-to-High-End Brands & 3 Matching Grades Based on Customer Formula Requirements

    Combining NordCable’s LDPE formula with 190 parts aluminum hydroxide high-filler zero-halogen cables, -40°C low-temperature weather resistance, long-term thermal aging at 135°C, internal control standards of raw material impurities ≤5ppm and free alcohol ≤0.3%, HiSiaddi eliminated Wuhan Linsheng and Guangzhou Shanghe which only produce low-end general materials, and finally designated two mid-to-high-end brands Nanjing Nengde and Anhui Guibao, recommending 3 targeted grades for gradient sample testing:

    1. Nanjing Nengde SCA-V71C (main mass production grade): All indicators match original Momentive A172, designated as the primary replacement raw material for mass production of core offshore wind power cables;

    2. Anhui Guibao SB-172 high-purity grade (alternative mass production grade): Optimal impurity control, designated for subdivision product lines of shipboard special weather-resistant cables;

    3. Changzhou Kangyide KYD-A172A (alternative formula optimization grade): Outstanding filler coating performance, reserved for sample testing of the customer’s subsequent new high-filler modified products.

    IV. Gradient Sample Testing & Implementation of Bulk Procurement Cooperation

    1. Lab sample testing phase HiSiaddi coordinated the three manufacturers to deliver 5kg samples each accompanied by CNAS third-party full-item test reports, uniformly airfreighted to the customer’s R&D center in Finland. The customer conducted full testing including mixing pelletizing, cable extrusion, cold-hot cycling and high-temperature aging simultaneously:

    · Nengde SCA-V71C: Uniform crosslinking, no coking particles, no oil precipitation or cracking on insulation, all indicators up to standard, designated as primary mass production raw material;

    · Guibao SB-172 high-purity: Optimal low-temperature performance, one-time pass for shipboard cable testing;

    · Kangyide KYD-A172A: Excellent performance in new formula testing, designated as fixed raw material for new product development samples.

    1. Pilot test & bulk contract signing 500kg pilot batches of each grade were applied to mass production lines in Finland, and all finished cables passed full IEC acceptance standards. The customer finalized an annual 196-ton procurement framework: 132 tons of Nengde SCA-V71C, 52 tons of Guibao SB-172 high-purity grade, and the remaining 12 tons of Kangyide modified grades purchased on demand. HiSiaddi uniformly coordinated packaging specifications, REACH compliance documents, export customs clearance and full-container ocean shipping. The first batch of 68 tons was shipped from Shanghai Port to Helsinki with smooth customs clearance and warehousing upon arrival.

    Comprehensive costs of localized procurement decreased by 31.7% compared with original Momentive products, ocean delivery lead times were shortened from the original 65 days to 32 days, and the production line reject rate dropped by over 90% compared with trial samples in the early stage.

    Extension of long-term cooperation In the following year, NordCable entrusted HiSiaddi with exclusive services for grade selection, sample testing and export of the full range of silane coupling agents including amino silane and vinyl trimethoxysilane. Drawing on this selection case, HiSiaddi successively secured silane procurement orders with two other mid-to-high-end offshore wind cable manufacturers in Sweden and Norway.

    Summary of industry pain points Restricted by business orientation, domestic silane manufacturers focus on promoting their own products and lack cross-brand neutral evaluation services. Mid-to-high-end overseas end customers lack familiarity with domestic process grading and cannot distinguish national standard general materials from high-end refined grades, easily selecting low-end products leading to mass production scrapping.
